Perhaps the most easily recognisable landmark in all of London is the clock tower erected in 1858 that is often referred to as “Big Ben.” Of course, the official name of this famous piece of architecture is “Elizabeth Tower,” which commemorates the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. Although the alliterative nickname is used to refer to the tower and its clock, it really belongs to the 13.76-tonne bell inside, which was allegedly named in honour of British civil engineer and politician Sir Benjamin Hall.

In the slot game “Big Ben,” which was developed by Aristocrat for online casinos such as Bet365, the popular interpretation takes precedence. Slot players are confronted by 5 reels with 25 paylines and the opportunity to participate in either of two splendid bonuses that incorporate the steadfast London timekeeper in their motif. The background colour for Big Ben is evening blue, with brick walls, a gas lamp, the London skyline and puffy clouds surrounding the reels. All controls are located at the bottom of the display.

To begin, choose from 1 to 25 “Lines” by using the +/- toggles below the third reel or by clicking on the line numbers that flank the first and fifth reels. The amount of the “Bet” per line may be adjusted by using +/- toggles beneath the third reel. Available denominations range from €0.01 to €2.00, thus making the maximum possible wager €50 per spin. Instead of a “Max Bet” option, “Max” buttons are provided separately for the Lines and Bet per line amounts.

The basic reel symbols on Big Ben are the common card symbols, Nines through Kings. Payouts are made for matching three or more of these symbols for payouts of 5X to 125X; the Nines, however, pay 2X for just two symbols aligned. Higher rewards can be gained by matching symbols for the Tavern Sign, Street Lamp, Phone Box and London Bus, from 10X to 500X for three of a kind or more on an active payline. Catching just two or more of the Union Jack or Royal Crown symbols pays a line multiplier from 2X to 800X.

The wild symbol on all reels is the “Queen’s Guard.” He substitutes for all of the above symbols during normal slot play and multiplies the line win by 2X. Catching 2, 3, 4 or 5 of the Queen’s Guard wilds in a winning combination pays 10X, 300X, 3000X or 30000X, respectively.

There is also a Big Ben Clock scatter symbol on each of the reels. Whenever 2, 3, 4 or 5 of these appear anywhere on the reels, a payout is made times the total wager of 2X, 5X, 25X or 1000X, respectively. Catching three or more Big Ben Clock scatter symbols also activates the Free Game Feature, with 15, 200 or 25 free spins awarded, respectively. All wins during the free games mode are doubled (2X), and free games may be retriggered, too.

Another bonus related to the Big Ben Clock symbol is the “Big Ben Feature.” It is triggered whenever the symbols appear on reels one and five simultaneously. A pop-up box will show the bell, Big Ben, as it chimes. The number of chimes determines the prize that is won, from 2X to 500X for 1~24 chimes.

One other bonus available on Big Ben is the Gamble Feature. After each win, the player has the option to guess a card, red or black to double up the winnings, or to pick a suit—hearts, diamonds, spades or clubs—to quadruple the winnings. Choosing correctly allows gambling again and again up to a maximum of five times, otherwise the “Take Win” button can used to collect the payout and return to the slot game mode. To make card selection a bit easier, a history of the suits of past cards drawn provides some useful information.

One other useful aspect of this slot is the Autoplay function. Clicking on the Autoplay button below the first reel will open a menu for selecting from 5 to 500 automatic spins. The game will only pause when the player clicks on “Stop Spin” or the Free Games Feature is activated. Note that the Gamble Feature is disabled during the Autoplay mode.
