Founded in 1995, CryptoLogic, Inc. has played a seminal role in the growth of gaming on the Internet. Its software powered one of the very first “play-of-money” casinos online—InterCasino—in 1996, and three years later William Hill became the first land-based bookmaker to establish a web-based casino, thanks to innovative Cryptologic gaming applications.

The company started out in Canada and became listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange in 1998. Oddly enough, the Canadian government Canadian government interpreted its federal criminal codes as outlawing the establishment of sites for online gaming. However, as a supplier of Internet gaming software, not an operator, Cryptologic was able to develop applications unimpeded. Moreover, there is no interpretation of the law that prohibits Canadian citizens from gambling online, so local players can access Cryptologic games as long as they are domiciled in other countries.

In 2002, Cryptologic became one of the first software suppliers to offer a Java-based version of its casino games, thus enabling no-download, instant play gaming for slots and table games. That same year, the company began offering bingo and poker room technology, too. By 2005, the Cryptologic-powered Internet poker room ranked among the world’s top five in terms of revenue.

Among the provider’s unique applications are slot games based on such popular themes as Marvel Superheroes like The Hulk, Daredevil and X-Men. It brought Bejeweled and the Playboy brand to casino web sites and created the first online casino software to offer “Rapid Fire Jackpots”—progressives that hit multiple times every day

In fact, the as far as progressives go, the Millionaires Club jackpot network paved the way, making life-changing awards possible online. The Millionaires Club progressive was and still is the only game to break the $8 million barrier.

All financial transactions at Cryptologic-powered casinos are managed by ECASH Direct, one of the Internet’s leading casino payment processors. Transactions and betting results are available for players to review at any time.

Today, no fewer than 104 individual web sites are powered by Cryptologic software. Licenses are offered exclusively through WagerLogic, Ltd., the company’s wholly owned licensing subsidiary, which does not permit its gaming applications to be used by U.S. players. Among the supplier’s better-known clients are Betfair, 888 Casino, Party Casino, Sky Vegas, SportingBet, Unibet Casino, bet365 Games, Victor Chandler Casino, Betsson Bingo, Paddy Power Games and Virgin Casino, to name just a few.

Cryptologic’s many contributions to the development of online game range from the introduction of multi-player games, live chat, custom browser windows (to control the main application and launch additional applications) to 3D casino environments. The company has also pioneered e-cash management, marketing support and 24/7 customer service for a complete online gaming solutions. Its online casino suite contains no fewer than 280 games plus player-to-player poker and multi-player bingo games with multiple currencies and languages available.

It should come as no surprise, therefore, that Cryptologic is a four-time recipient of Gambling Online Magazine’s Best Casino Software Award. However, the company also contracts with other suppliers for specialized applications. An example of this is the company’s relationship with EntwineTech, a Macau-based live dealer specialist.

EntwineTech was originally known as EnterAsia. They launched in 2004 and eventually signed a master license agreement with Cryptologic to supply licensee casinos with a live dealer platform. Featuring a large range of tables, dealers and games, EntwineTech supplies Bodog, VictorChandler, 888 Live and other Cryptologic clients on a 24/7 basis. High limit games are available, too.
