The word “Daytona” quickly brings to mind sandy beaches, muscle building, muscle cars and the “Great American Race”—the Daytona 500. This classic 500-mile race has been conducted at Daytona Beach, Florida since the opening of the Daytona International Speedway in 1959. For the past three decades, it has been the lead-off event for NASCAR’s annual Sprint Cup Series and, perhaps more than any other U.S. auto race, the Daytona 500 has been responsible for elevating the careers of drivers while popularising the machines of constructors.

Now, JPM Interactive has added a tribute to this exciting race to its series of online “Max Power” progressive jackpot slots under the name “Daytona Classic Max Power.” It is a 3-reel, multi-stake game played on five paylines—three horizontal and two diagonal—and the logo shows off its racing pedigree, with the Daytona Classic name emblazoned upon a checkered flag background.

Daytona Classic Max Power has three reels displayed off-centre to the left of the screen, making room for the Paytable and Turbo Gamble multiplier ladder on the right. At the top right is the “Max Power Progressive” indicator with the “Winnings” counter just below it. At the top left is the “Max Power Bonus” display, which remains shuttered until triggered by the game.

The player’s “Credit” counter is just below the reels in the Message display, and five rectangular control buttons in different colours appear across the bottom of the screen: yellow “Collect,” red “Max Stake,” blue “Turbo Gamble,” orange “Turbo Play” and green “Start.” Below the Paytable is the “Stake” indicator with up/down arrows for setting the wager per spin from £0.25 to £10. There is also an “Auto Play” indicator to the right of the Stake, which can be used to set the number of automated spins between 5 and 100.

Each spin always features all five paylines. The payout table shows the amounts that can be won for catching three matching symbols on a payline. Cherries pay odds of 1X, Lemons are worth 2X and Oranges yield 5X. Aligning three Bells is worth 10X, three Grapes pay 15X and three Watermelons are valued at 20X. Catching three Yellow Single Bars pays 25X, while three Blue Double Bars are worth 30X and three Red Triple Bars yield 40X. The top prize of 50X goes for matching three Joker icons, which are also wild and substitute for any of the above symbols.

Following each win, laughter is heard and the player has the option to use the Turbo Gamble feature. Fast action music will play and the lights will begin flashing on the yellow Collect button and the blue Turbo Gamble button. The 2X step on the Turbo Gamble multiplier ladder will also flash, and the words “Win” and “”Lose” will blink in alternation on the Message display. The player has 10 seconds to decide what action to take.

If Collect is chosen, the Winnings will be deposited to the player’s funds and the next spin can begin. Clicking on Turbo Gamble, however, will cause the Message display to freeze on either Win or Lose. If the result is Lose, the Winnings are lost and the next spin can begin. If the result is "Win," the Winnings will increase to 2X and the 3X step on the ladder will begin flashing. Again, the player has 10 seconds to decide whether to use Turbo Gamble again or to Collect the Winnings.

The Turbo Gamble multiplier ladder has ten steps in all, from 1X to 10X. If the result of the gamble is “Lose” after the player has advanced at least one step up the ladder, the Winnings will decrease to the step immediately below. If the result of the gamble is “Win,” the Winnings will increase to the step above. The player may continue to use Turbo Gamble, moving up and down the ladder, until all the Winnings are lost, Collect is taken or the 10X step is reached. Various automotive sound effects accompany the results, such as car horns, revving engines, shifting gears, etc.

If the player reaches position 10X on the ladder, Super Turbo is offered. This is a double or half gamble and the outcome terminates the game. This is where it is possible to either win the Maximum Jackpot for the stake being played or half that value.

One special feature of Daytona Classic Max Power is its Max Power Bonus. This is triggered any time a Max Power Logo symbol appears on an active payline. The shuttered display above the reels will open to reveal a fast-moving cityscape scene in dark silhouette. The buildings passing by are marked with multipliers and some of them are brightly lit with Max Power Logos. The object is to click and stop the scene at a building with the highest multiplier possible, which will be applied to the entire triggering Stake. Catching the Max Power Logo wins the Progressive Jackpot.
