Full Cover Bets with Singles

Any wager made up of all possible doubles, trebles and accumulators across a specified number of selections is known as a “Full Cover Bet.” Such wagers require at least two successful picks in order to yield a return. Bettors who seek even greater coverage can add single bets on each selection so that only one correct pick is required. Such wagering is known as Full Cover Betting with Singles.

Full Cover Bets with Singles have exotic names, such as Patent and Alphabet. One particular class of such bets is called “Lucky,” including Lucky 15, Lucky 31 and Lucky 63. The reason they are so named is the practice of bookmaker offering bonuses for one or more winning selections, commonly “double the odds” for one winner or percentage increases for getting all of the selections correct.

Following are the various Full Cover Bets with Singles defined, along with the “Lucky” bonuses awarded, if any.

Patent – This bet made up of seven wagers on three selections (A, B & C) in different events; it is the same as the Full Cover Bet made up for four doubles know as a “Trixie”—AB, AC, BC and ABC—but with single bets placed on each selection, A, B & C, as well. This wager requires only one successful selection to yield a return.

Lucky 15 – This bet consists of four selections (A, B, C & D) in different events, and it is made up of fifteen wagers: four singles, six doubles, four trebles and a four-fold accumulator. It is identical to the Full Cover Bet known as a “Yankee,” except for the addition of the four single bets: A, B, C, D, AB, AC, AD, BC, BD, CD, ABC, ABD, ACD, BCD, and ABCD. This wager requires only one successful selection to yield a return. It typically pays “double the odds” for only one winning selection or a 10% bonus if all four selections succeed.

Lucky 31 – This bet consists of five selections (A, B, C, D & E) in different events, and it is made up of 31 wagers: five singles, ten doubles, ten trebles, five four-fold accumulators and one five-fold accumulator. It is identical to the Full Cover Bet known as a “Canadian” or “Super Yankee,” but with the addition of five single bets: A, B, C, D, E, AB, AC, AD, AE, BC, BD, BE, CD, CE, DE, ABC, ABD, ABE, ACD, ACE, ADE, BCD, BCE, BDE, CDE, ABCD, ABCE, ABDE, ACDE, BCDE and ABCDE. This wager requires only one successful selection to yield a return and it pays a 15% bonus if all five selections win.

Lucky 63 – This bet consists of six selections (A, B, C, D, E & F) in different events, and it is made up of 63 wagers: six singles, 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 four-fold accumulators, 6 five-fold accumulators and one six-fold accumulator. It is identical to the “Heinz,” but with the addition of the six single bets: A, B, C, D, E, F, AB, AC … ACDEF, BCDEF, ABCDEF. This wager requires only one successful selection to yield a return and it pays a 20% bonus if all six selections win.

Alphabet – This wager consists of 26 bets on six selections (A, B, C, D, E & F) in different events. It is made up of a Patent (three singles, three doubles and a treble, see above) on selections A, B and C; a second Patent on selections D, E and F; a Yankee (ref: Lucky 15 minus the singles) on selections B, C, D and E; and a six-fold accumulator, ABCDEF. This wager requires just one successful selection to yield a return.
