Developed by the Danish company IO Interactive in 2000, Hitman is a stealth game series available on personal computers as well as Nintendo GameCube, PlayStation and Xbox game machines. It began with “Hitman: Code 47” and has run through several iterations since then, including “Hitman 2: Silent Assassin,” Hitman: Contracts,” “Hitman: Blood Money” and the very latest “Hitman: Absolution. The storyline in each of the games revolves around an assassin-for-hire called “Agent 47.”

Over the years, the series has expanded to include a novel, “Hitman: Enemy Within” by William C. Dietz and a 2007 film adaptation starring Timothy Olyphant and Dougray Scott. In the movie version, Agent 47 is hired by a group called “The Organization” as part of a political conspiracy, which puts him on the wrong side of Interpol and the Russian military as he makes his way across Russia and Eastern Europe.

Software developer Microgaming had such great success with its first video game branded slots, Tomb Raider I and II, that they decided to expand the category in late 2007 by giving the paid slayer his own five-reel, 15-payline format. From its sleekly dark design to its challenging bonus rounds, the Hitman slot simply kills the competition.

Winning combinations are obtained by matching three or more Garrote, Switchblade, Poison Syringe, Sniper Rifle or Handgun symbols on an active line. Higher paying symbols requiring only two or more matches are Folded Money, Attaché Case, Loaded Gun and Sniper Pose. The game also has four special symbols to unlock bonus features: Laptops, Insignias, Code 18 and Wild Agent 47 with his crossed silverballers.

Credit denominations on the Hitman game range from €0.01 up to €0.25. The value of each credit can be adjusted by clicking the +/- toggles beneath the first reel. Wagers are accepted of up to 10 credits per line on 1 to 20 paylines for a maximum bet of €75. Click “Spin” to set the reels in motion. Winnings are shown in the “Win” display below the fifth reel. The current Balance is shown in the lower left corner of the screen. Repeat bets can be made by using the Autoplay panel below the second reel.

The top line payout on Hitman slots is a multiplier of 4,000X the line bet for five matched Sniper Poses. Other winning combinations pay from 2X to 2,000X. Catching Insignias on reels 1, 2 and 3 triggers the “pick a box” Insignia Bonus, whereby the player selects just one of the Insignias to reveal a multiplier for the entire wager. The top payout is 6,000 credits.

The Wild Agent 47 appears only on reels 2, 3 and 4. No matter where he shows up on the reels, the symbol expands to fill the entire reel and completes any winning combinations of symbols except the special symbols. There is also a Free Spins Bonus activated by the appearance of three or more Scattered Code 18 symbols. The bonus award is 18 free spins with a 2X multiplier. Free spins can be retriggered and all bonus features remain active during free spin play.

The Contract Bonus on Hitman slots is activated by catching three Laptop symbols on reels 3, 4 and 5. The player is then required to select one of five targets for assassination—Joseph Clarence, Skip Muldoon, Sheik Al-Khalifa, Mark Purayah II or Daniel Morris—each with a different “bounty” of bonus values from 600 to 45,000 credits. A mystery value is awarded immediately upon choosing a target, and then a weapon must be selected for a bonus multiplier to be awarded. It is possible to win up to 270,000 coins in the Contract Bonus alone.
