Known as “Lucky Numbers” in Ireland, the Irish Lotto Bet is lotto-type game based upon the outcome of the National Irish Lottery. It features 45 numbers, up to five of which may be selected for each game. Depending on how many of the player’s picks match the ones drawn at random, payouts are made ranging from £5.50 up to £100,001.

The version of Irish Lotto Bet played in the U.K. is operated by 49s Limited, a company registered in England and Wales, with headquarters in London. Wagers are accepted at participating bookmakers, betting shops and online lottery sites, including those offered by Coral, Jennings, Ladbrokes, Betfred, William Hill and others.

The Irish Lotto Bet games are conducted twice a week to coincide with the actual draws of the National Irish Lottery on Wednesdays and Saturdays. There are three draws on each day, made up of the Main Draw plus a 2nd Draw and a 3rd Draw. Out of the 45 numbered balls available, only six balls are drawn plus a bonus ball for each draw.

Players have the option of wagering on either the 6-Number Draw or the 7-Number Draw, which includes the bonus ball. In the former case, players select up to five numbers from the first six numbers to be drawn. For the latter, players pick up to five numbers from the seven to be drawn. If all of the numbers chosen are successful, payouts are made at fixed odds, as listed on the following chart based on a £1 bet.

Play & Match6-Number Draw7-Number Draw
5 Numbers£100,001£30,001
4 Numbers£6,501£3,001
3 Numbers£576£301
2 Numbers£53£36
1 Number£6.50£5.50

As the chart indicates, a £2 play on 3 numbers would win £576 x 2 = £1,152 in the 6-Number Draw or £301 x 2 = £602 in the 7-Number Draw. Winning amounts include the initial stake (£2 in this example; £1 in the chart), but bets and payouts may vary from location to location so players are advised to check with their local bookmaker for specifics.

Among the various rules that apply to Irish Lotto Bet, all wagers must be placed by 7pm on the day of the draw, before the National Irish Lottery’s Main Draw at 7:45pm. Any wager accepted after the stated deadline will be void. In the event of the Main, 2nd or 3rd draw not taking place on either a Wednesday or Saturday, the bet will stand on the next Main draw to take place unless cancelled by mutual consent with the bookmaker.

Results are displayed in betting shops after each draw. They are also published in the Irish press and can be verified online at the 49s.co.uk website. Another means of checking the winning numbers is to call the Irish Lotto Bet on 08718 778899; a charge of 10p per minute applies per call, and mobile tariffs may vary.

Those who rely on betting patterns to select numbers for Irish Lotto Bet may with to consult the 49s.co.uk website for lists of “Hot & Cold” numbers. The hottest and coldest numbers based on results over the most recent four weeks are displayed, along with a chart showing the results for all 45 numbers over the course all draws to date.

The 49s.co.uk website also offers an option for forming Irish Lotto Bet syndicates. Players are invited to pool together under the strategy that more players and more numbers means more chances to win.
