Ker-Ching

JPM Interactive have been quite busy bringing the excitement of U.K. fruit machines out from the corners of pubs and into the online gaming environment. Among their many innovations is “Ker-Ching,” a 3-reel game featuring a single centre payline, with a full line-up of traditional “hold” and “nudge” capabilities plus a jackpot worth 250 times whatever stake is wagered.

The display for Ker-Ching has the reels slightly off-centre to the left of the screen, making room for the "Paytable" above and the “Till Grid” to the right. At the very top is the “Jackpot” indicator and on the far left is the “Nudge” indicator. All of the various controls are located toward the bottom of the screen, and surrounding the game components is a shower of gold coins.

To begin the game, the player must choose an amount to wager by using the up/down arrows flanking the “Stake” indicator to the right of the third reel. Available values range from £0.25 to £10. The amount of the Jackpot will change, depending on the stake selected. Clicking on the green “Start” button in the lower right corner will set the reels in motion.

After the reels come to rest, there are several possibilities. If three matching symbols appear on the payline, the winning amount will be paid as shown on the Paytable. Three Cherries are worth a stake multiplier of 2X, three Yellow Single Bars in a row are worth 3X, three Blue Double Bars gain 5X and three Red Triple Bars yield 10X. Catching three Red Sevens on the centre line wins 20X and the top payout is for three JPM Logos worth 70X.

Even if the symbols on the win line do not match, “Holds” are offered at random. These are auto held and may be offered after a winning combination, too. The player may “Cancel” the holds and select other reels instead. Occasionally, a Hold after a win may be awarded at random, too. If two like symbols are held on three consecutive games, then the third game will result in a matching symbol appearing on the win line. If there is a reel win above or below the win line, occasionally all three reels will hold and the win will either step down or up to bring the win onto the win line.

Similar to Holds, “Nudges” are available randomly following spins, too. As many as three may be offered, allowing the player to nudge the reels of his/her choice. If a win is available from nudges, the win available will be indicated on the award card, via a flashing of the relevant fruit and prize. Following a game with non-winning nudges, holds may be offered. If there are two like symbols on the win line and these are not held, the corresponding three of a kind win will be spun in.

One other reel symbol plays an important role in the game of Ker-Ching—the Till, which appears on all three reels. Whenever a Till appears in any position, it will be highlighted in red on the Till Grid. Catching three Tills anywhere in view (27 ways) will trigger the game’s “Streak Feature,” which is played out on the three “Award Cards” of the Paytable. Spins begin automatically and as fruit symbols appear on the centre line, their corresponding symbols on the Award Card light up. When all three positions on the card are lit, a payout is made according to the Paytable.

If a Till symbol appears on the centre line, the Award Chart will advance to the next level with all payouts doubled. If multiple symbols are spun in, the game will progress multiple levels. Spinning in a total of three symbols will award the “Ker-Ching!” win series. The value awarded by this feature is variable but it will always exceed the value of the top award for the stake being played.

A message display directly beneath the reels shows what action is taking place at any given time, such as “Spinning” or the number of nudges as well as the funds remaining in the player’s balance, which is also displayed at the top right corner of the screen. Two other options on Ker-Ching are “Turbo” to speed up play and “Autoplay” to enable from 5 to 100 spins at the same stake to be played without touching the controls.
