Of all forms of betting activity, lotto is by far the most popular game in the world. More people, in more countries purchase lotto tickets that wager on sports or frequent casinos, and in many places lotto is a major source of revenue for social welfare programs operated by governments. The attraction, of course, is the possibility of huge winnings from small wagers, plus easy access through licensed lotto agencies that exist by the thousands in major cities.

Software developer Playtech has tapped into this global lotto craze to introduce a 5-reel, 20-payline slot game called “Lotto Madness.” Credit denominations run from €0.01 to €5.00 and as many as 10 credits may be wagered per selected payline. The maximum wager is €1,000. Betting amounts may be adjusted between spins at any time by using the controls at the bottom of the screen. Clicking on “Max Bet” will maximize both the number of paylines and the amount bet per line without changing the credit denomination.

The basic reel symbols are Lotto Balls, Six through Ten. Winning combinations pay from 5X to 300X for three or more matched symbols on an active payline. However it takes just two of the Six Ball symbols to earn a win worth 5X. Higher awards come from lining up just two or more symbols for Cash, Champagne or the Thumb’s Up Winner—with line multipliers worth from 5X to 1000X.

Also appearing on the reels is the Lotto Ticket wild symbol. It substitutes for all symbols except the Bonus and Scatter symbols. Catching 2, 3, 4 or 5 Lotto Tickets on a payline awards a line multiplier of 10X, 100X, 1000X or 10000X, respectively. Because the payout requirements are relatively low and matches are so frequent, small amounts can be won on just about every spin, accompanied by appropriate audio effects.

The Dollar Sign Scatter triggers is worth a multiplier times the total wager of 5X, 10X or 50X whenever 3, 4 or 5 such symbols appear on any positions on the reels. On the first and fifth reels only, the Lucky Wheel Bonus symbols appear. Whenever both are displayed simultaneously in any position, a second-screen Bonus Round is activated. The screen shows an announcer with a microphone and his female assistant flanking The “Crazy Wheel.” The player is invited to spin it to win free slot play spins and a bonus multiplier.

Lotto Madness has no toggle on the main screen to activate Autoplay. Instead, it is hidden and can only be accessed through the pull-down “Tools” menu at the very top of the screen. Then, using the +/- toggles next to the spins indicator that appears in the lower right corner of the screen will set the number of auto spins, else the number can be typed directly into the counter—up to 9,999 spins maximum.

The Lotto Madness slot is also linked into Playtech’s progressive Dollar Ball Jackpot, a side game that offers true lotto action. It can be accessed by using a toggle in the upper right corner of the screen. The object of Dollar Ball is to choose five numbers from 1 to 49 and launch the main game, where five numbers will be drawn at random.

Getting 1, 2 or 3 numbers correct pays 1X, 2X or 25X, based on the total amount bet. Catching four numbers yields a payout of 1% of the progressive jackpot, while getting all five numbers pays the grand prize.

Players may select their own five Dollar Ball numbers or click on Random Pick to have the numbers chosen randomly by the computer. As long as Dollar Ball is activated, an additional Jackpot wager will be made automatically each time the player bets in the main slot game. The Dollar Ball side bet can be turned off at will by clicking on Disable.

Whenever numbers match the player’s picks, the circles containing those numbers turn green and the win amount is displayed. All Dollar Ball wins are deposited directly into the current Balance along with any winnings from the main game.
