In Western astrology, star signs are used to indicate the twelve sectors of the solar ecliptic, starting at the vernal equinox. They correspond directly to the 12 signs of the Zodiac, dating back to the 4th century BCE. In order counterclockwise from the first point of Aries, the signs are named Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces.

Endemol Gaming has incorporated the 12 symbols for these astrological sectors into its “Star Sign Supernova,” a fixed odds game that combines elements of traditional slots and spinning wheel arcade games. It features a novel version of the 12-payline format plus three interactive bonus rounds for additional opportunities to win big.

Set against a maroon-coloured sky and circling the blazing sun, there are three concentric circles called “Rings,” which are formed by the star signs. The inner Ring is made up of all 12 signs, the middle Ring consists of 24 random signs and the outer one has 36 signs. Controls are simple, including a “Stake Per Spin” selector in the lower left corner of the screen and a “Spin” button with “Autoplay” option at the lower right.

A game of Star Sign Supernova begins by selecting a stake to wager from £1 to £5 by clicking on the up/down arrows flanking the “Stake Per Spin” indicator. Next, clicking on Spin will set the Rings of star signs in motion, rotating clockwise or counterclockwise, until each of them comes to rest. At that point, the rays of light will shoot out from the sun to indicate successful win lines. The total amount won is displayed over the sun.

Payouts are made for matching 2 or 3 of the same symbols on a win line (from the inner Ring to the outer) or for matching 2 or 3 of the same coloured symbol on a win line. Only the highest payout is made per win line, meaning that matching symbols on a win line always supersede matching colours. Clicking on the “Paytable” button on the top of the screen allows viewing of the specific payouts for the game, which are calculated on the full stake, not a prorated value per win line.

The payout for matching 2 or 3 Sagittarius, Scorpio or Libra signs on a win line ranges from 0.1X to 0.75X. For Virgo, Caner or Leo signs, the awards are from 0.2X to 2.75X. The payouts for matching Gemini, Taurus or Aries sign are from 0.3X to 25X. And the awards for 2 or 3 Aquarius, Capricorn or Pisces signs are from 0.4X to 1000X.

The symbols are also grouped in colours according to their elements. Red is for the Fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) paying 0.1X to 0.15X, while Red is for the Air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) worth 0.1X to 0.2X. Green is for the Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) paying 01X to 0.25X, and Blue is for the Water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) worth 0.1X to 0.3X.

When the Autoplay button is selected, a pop-up counter appears with up/down arrows to set the number of automated spins between 1 and 25. Clink on “Start Auto” to begin play; to halt Autoplay and return to “Regular” spins mode, click on “Stop.” Autoplay will also stop whenever all selected spins have been made or if a Bonus Feature is won, whichever comes first.

The Bonus Features on Fruity Supernova are activated any time three matching Virgo, Gemini or Taurus signs fill a win line. Virgo triggers the first bonus, “Tarot Cards,” which is a gamble option to collect the stake won or wager it for a bonus amount. If the latter is chosen, three cards appear and the player must select one of them to win double the current win, receive even money or else lose the amount won.

The second Bonus Feature is set in motion by Gemini. It is called the “Fortune Cookies Bonus” game.” Fortune Cookies are seen rotating on a carousel. Each of them hides a cash prize. The player selects one to win whatever amount it contains.

The third bonus called “Rune Stones” is activated by Taurus and offers 12 symbolic stones to choose from. The player clicks on up to seven of them to reveal cash prizes and is awarded their total.
