Movies about Egyptian mummies coming to life have been around almost as long as producers have been making motion pictures. From the 1908 French film “La Momie” and the 1932 B&W classic “The Mummy” with Boris Karloff to the most recent trilogy of hits from Universal Pictures starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, audiences just love to be frightened by ghouls wrapped in gauze.

The 1999 version of “The Mummy” was a blockbuster adventure film with mild horror themes, as Fraser played American researcher Rick O’Connell and Weisz took on the role of librarian Evelyn Carnahan O`Connell. They were joined by Arnold Vosloo as the High Priest Imhotep and his cohort of mummified priests. The 2001 sequel called “The Mummy Returns” included the same trio, plus Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Mathayus the Scorpion King and Patricia Velasquez as the Pharaoh’s mistress Anck Su Namun.

The third movie in the series was released in 2008—“The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.” All together, the trilogy has banked over $1.2 billion in box office and DVD sales, and a roller coaster ride called “Revenge of the Mummy” opened at the Universal Studios Orlando amusement park in 2004. However, it was the second film in the series upon which Playtech chose to base its high-tech video slot “The Mummy” in 2011.

This five-reel, 25-payline game is one of the most complex and involving slots in Playtech’s line up. It features the actors Fraser, Weisz, Johnson, Vosloo and Velasquez in their film roles as symbols to match up on paylines, along with such artifacts as Scarabs, Sarcophaguses and Handguns. The highest payout on a single line, 10,000X, is awarded for five Rick O’Connell (Fraser) symbols on an active payline.

Other line payouts range from 5X to 2,000X. Credit denominations range from €0.05 to €1, with wagering of one credit per line on any number of paylines up to 25 for a maximum bet of €25. The credit value can be adjusted by clicking on the +/- buttons under the second reel.

To begin the game, click “Spin.” The reels can be halted instantly by clicking “Stop.” Winnings appear in the “Win” display below the third reel, while the current Balance appears in the lower left corner of the screen. Use of Autoplay allows up to 50 respins at the same bet level.

During the basic slots game, Mummy symbols are wild on reels 2, 3 and 4 only and substitute for all symbols except the scattered Logos, the Bonus Hunt symbol and the Free Spin symbol. Obtaining 3, 4 or 5 scattered Logos multiplies the entire wager by 4X, 30X or 150X, respectively.

Whenever three Free Spin symbols appear across reels 1, 3 and 5 in the basic slots game, the player receives five free spins plus an additional Super Spin. Wilds that appear along the way are stored as Collected Wilds to be used in the Super Spin round, when they are distributed on reels 2, 3 and 4 for potential massive wins.

The Mummy Hunt Bonus round is triggered by the appearance of Mummy Hunt symbols on both reels one and five. The regular slots mode is suspended and a scene opens up in the depths of an ancient pyramid, where mummies must be slaughtered for repeat cash prizes of up to 3X the line bet for each one destroyed.

Although those would be plenty of features for most slot games, The Mummy slots have an additional six bonus games available, which are unlocked one by one as the random Lost City Adventure Bonus is activated, which can occur at the end of any regular spin.

Picking boxes reveals prizes and unlocks new features, such as the Scorpion Scatter, Expanding Mummy, Scarab Attack and Mummy Power. Others are the Collapsing Reels Bonus and the Mummy Re-Spin. Once the features have been unlocked, they can be played during and subsequent Lost City Adventure Bonus round.
