The leading golfers in the world (and Rory McIlroy) line up this weekend for the third World Golf Championship event of 2013, the WGC Bridgestone Invitational.

Bookmakers make Tiger Woods at the 9/2 (GENERAL) favourite as he seeks his eighth victory here. The American clearly loves Firestone although perhaps not as much as his bank manager as this course has brought him career earnings to date of 9.36 million dollars (his most profitable course). Woods has already won this year at Bay Hill and Torrey Pines both locations that like here he is fan of. That being said though I still think the price is too short especially as you have to go back to 2009 for his last success here.

I am surprised once more to see Phil Mickelson so high in the betting again and I can not understand how he can go off at almost triple the price of Woods when he was won more majors than Tiger in recent years. Mickelson comes here on the back of victory in the Open Championship at Muirfield. Some might argue that Mickelson does not like this venue having failed to trouble the top fourty on his last four appearances. Going back though he does have history here winning this in 1996 and coming top ten four times. Also did they not say that the American did not links courses and look what happened in the Open. The American says he is in the form of his life right now and it would be rude not to get involved at 16/1 (CORAL). Those who want to cover for Mickelson and/or Woods can do so with paddy Power who wll be refunding losing bets if your golfer finishes second to either of these players.

Adam Scott is another name that features heavily at the top of the betting at 14/1 (GENERAL). The Australian is a man for the big occasion with six top tens in his last 11 major appearances including that victory at Augusta. Scott has good course form also having won this event in 2011, one of three top tens here. He is one who commands huge respect and if you want to add a fourth name then he is the one to add to the portfolio. Brandt Snedeker is next in the betting at 22/1 (GENERAL) following his victory in the RBC Canadian Open last weekend. The American has never finished higher than 33rd at this event suggesting he is one to leave off this time around.

Justin Rose will compete in his first event since missing the cut at the Open and the Englishman will likely be competitive in an event that he has finished in the top five twice previously. Rose can be backed at 25/1 (GENERAL) which is all the same price Matt Kuchar and Dustin Johnson. All three are capable of being among the final day challengers.

The second selection off the tee is Ian Poulter at 55/1 (GENERAL) as the Englishman makes his first appearance since a tied third at the Open Championship. Poulter produced an exceptional last round to get himself in contention and if he can carry his momentum then he could do well here. His record here is solid with three top twenty finishes and two more in the top thirty. He has a good record in the World Golf Championship events also winning the Matchplay in 2010 and the WGC HSBC Champions last year.

The third and final selection is Bo van Pelt who is a 100/1 (GENERAL) chance. The American has an excellent record here having finished no lower than 23rd on three previous occasions including a third in 2010 and an eighth in 2012.
