Manchester City vs. Newcastle - Betting preview and odds
October 3, 2015 15:00pm - Etihad Stadium
Premier League
The second from top and second from bottom-placed teams in the Premier League will go head-to-head on Saturday as Manchester City welcome Newcastle to the Etihad Stadium.
City hoping to halt the slide
Hosting one of only two winless teams in the league could be just what the doctor ordered for City boss Manuel Pellegrini as he attempts to cure his sides Premier League ailments.
After two straight defeats, the Citizen’s clear advantage at the top of the table has diminished and they have now been overtaken by their rivals from the red side of Manchester. After starting the season in indomitable fashion, City lost at home to West Ham and then slumped to a 4-1 defeat at White Hart Lane last weekend despite taking the lead thanks to a 25th-minute goal from Kevin De Bruyne.
It was the manner of the defeat that will have worried the Chilean boss as his side appeared to crumble under the pressure of a second half onslaught from Spurs. However, a mid-week win in the Champions League away to Borrusia Monchengladbach may have helped to restore some confidence to the dressing room.
A positive step for the Toon
In contrast to City´s mini-slump, Newcastle will have been boosted by last week´s home draw against Jose Mourinho´s Chelsea. Although Steve McClaren may have ultimately been disappointed not to have taken all three points - especially after gaining a two goal advantage - a draw against the reigning Premier League champions can only be seen as a positive result for the Magpies. The stalemate ensured that the Chelsea boss is still without a win at St James’ Park.
Team news
City are still without several players including Eliaquim Mangala, Samir Nasri, Fabian Delph and Gael Clichy however, it is the loss of Vincent Kompany that will be of most concern to the team in Sky Blue.
Newcastle´s position in the Premier League could be partly attributed to their regular position at the top of the injury league table. They still have 12 players on the injured or doubtful list, although a number of those are on the verge of returning, subject to no further relapses.
Players that are definitely still missing for the Geordies are Sylvain Marveaux, Curtis Good, Emmanuel Riviere, Steven Taylor, Karl Darlow and Massadio Haidara.

Betting odds and tips
Despite losing twice on the bounce, City will be clear favourites to win this game. However, the best price currently available is 1/4 with Stan James.
Newcastle showed some improvement last week and they have some key players returning from injury. It is not beyond the realms of possibility that they could get a result in Manchester. You can back the Newcastle-Draw Double Chance at 7/2 with Bet365
