Premier League

Aston Villa will be in danger of becoming the second team to be cut adrift at the bottom of the Premier League this season should they fail to beat West Midlands rivals West Bromwich Albion at home tomorrow. Villa are four points above bottom side Leicester City and are on the same number of points as both QPR and Burnley in the two positions above them. Should results go against them in these mid-week fixtures, however, they may find themselves three points from safety with a far inferior goal difference.

West Brom have shot up the league since the appointment of Tony Pulis as manager. The Baggies are eight points off the dreaded drop zone in 13th and could supersede Crystal Palace in 12th with a win away from home. Conversely, a loss at Villa Park could see Albion drop to 14th should Everton claim a win away at Stoke City on Wednesday.

The last time the two teams met was just before Christmas, these two clubs under the control of their former managers, Alan Irvine and Paul Lambert, at the Hawthorns. It was a game that the home side managed to win with Craig Gardner breaking the deadlock in the 72nd minute following a goalless first 45. Betvictor have odds of 7/1 on this match ending 1-0 to the Baggies once against whilst 18/5 with the same bookmaker says that Albion can win to nil once again. Craig Gardner is 18/1 (Betvictor, paddy Power) to be the first goalscorer in the match in this reverse fixture.

Despite their superior league position, Aston Villa`s home advantage makes them the favourites to put an end to their 12 Premier League games without a win. Most bookmakers have a price of 17/10 on Tim Sherwood`s men claiming all three points in the game tomorrow. West Brom can be backed at 85/40 with Betvictor in what is anticipated to be a close encounter whilst a draw can be picked up at odds of 11/5.

Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has been in charge of the home side for two games, both ending in defeats. Captain Ron Vlaar was sent off following his concession of a penalty as Stoke grabbed a last-gasp winner away from home in a 2-1 victory. Meanwhile, Saturday saw Newcastle secure the only goal at St. James Park as the Villans fell to yet another Premier League loss.

The scorer of the only Villa goal in the Sherwood era so far was Scott Sinclair who broke the deadlock against the Potters. Six-to-one (32red, unibet) says the Manchester City loanee will hit the back of the net at any time in tomorrow night`s 19:45 kick-off whilst it`s 12/1 (32red, boylesports) should you think that the Englishman can break the deadlock once again.

The Villa Park outfit have not kept a clean sheet in nine matches in all competitions and are 13/8 to not concede against their Midlands rivals.

Albion`s fortunes are in stark contrasts to those of Aston Villa, the visitors being currently unbeaten in five and having kept clean sheets in the last two fixtures. The club`s top scorer Saido Berahino hit the back of the net in the 2nd minute on Saturday to see Albion squeak past top four hopefuls Southampton 1-0. He is 27/11 (888sport, unibet) to add to his tally at any time tomorrow.

Pulis took charge of his first Albion away game on New Year`s Day, a game that ended 1-1 against West Ham United. The former Stoke man has lead his team out at four subsequent games on the road and has not tasted defeat in any of them.
