MENS LONG JUMP: The absence of world champion Dwight Phillips makes this a wide open competition. Bookmakers make Mitchell Watt the 7/2 (Stan James/william hill) favourite to take the Gold. The Australian was the Silver medalist at the World Championships and will hope to go one better here. Brit Greg Rutherford is the 5/1(boylesports/paddy Power/You Win) second favourite. The Milton Keynes athlete equalled the British record this year and will certainly be in the mix. With nine of the top ten distances jumped this year coming from different athletes, this looks a wide open event and one to avoid getting too heavily involved in.

MENS TRIPLE JUMP: You Win make Christian Taylor the 27/20 favourite to claim the Gold. The American is the current world champion and coasted to victory in the recent London Grand Prix. The American is the clear leader in the Diamond League standings and the price looks good value. His nearest challenge is expected to come from fellow American Will Claye (5/1-You Win). Brit Phillips Idowu is 8/1 (general), but of far more interest looks the 6/11 (188bet) that Idowu does not win a medal of any colour.

MENS HIGH JUMP: 2011 world champion Jesse Williams is a 4/1 co-favourite (general) to claim Gold alongside Russian Ivan Ukhov (Totesport/betfred). Brit Robbie Grabarz is currently ranked second in the world and bookmakers rate him an 8/1 (paddy Power) shot for Gold and 4/5 (william hill) to win a medal of any colour.

MENS POLE VAULT: Stan James seem to have missed the memo with the Pole Vault as every bookmaker has Frenchman Renaud Lavillenie under evens, but Stan James are going 6/5. Lavillenie is unbeaten this year and by far and away the best in the field. Admittedly he has yet to secure a Gold in either the World or the Olympics, but at this price he looks worth the risk. His nearest rivals are expected to be German duo Bjorn Otto and Molte Mohr.

MENS SHOT: Reese Hoffa and Christian Cantwell have between them produced the five best throws in the World this year, Hoffa is available at 3/1 (Totesport/betfred) and Cantwell is 9/2 (sportingbet). The bookmakers are also afraid of German David Storl (9/2-general) who has a good record in big events (winning the World and European Championships recently).

MENS DISCUS: Robert Harting is the 8/11 (ladbrokes) favourite for the Discus after winning the Gold in the last two World Championships and in the 2012 European Championship. Virgilijus Alenka is expected to present the closest challenge and is priced at 7/1 (You Win). Britain youngster Lawrence Okoye is an outside hope for a medal and is 25/1 (general) for Gold and 19/4 (sportingbet) to claim a medal of any colour.

MENS HAMMER: This looks like being between four men, Krisztian Pars who is the 2/1 (general) favourite, Ivan Tsikhan the 4/1 second favourite (Totesport/betfred), defending World Champiom Koji Murofushi (15/2-Totesport/betfred) and Pawel Fajdek (9/1-ladbrokes). The Pole is the second ranked thrower in the world and looks have the potential to improve his best on the big stage and is the one we are siding with at a value price.

MENS JAVELIN: Vitezslav Vesely is the 5/2 (general) favourite to land Gold in the javelin. The Czech is the current European Champion and ranked number one in the world.Matthias De Zordo (the current World Champion) 7/1 (paddy Power/ladbrokes) and Andreas Thorkildsen (Silver medalist in the world championship) is 13/5 (Stan James).
