100M: Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is the 6/4 (general) favourite to claim the sprint title. The Jamaican is the reigning Olympic Champion, but only finished fourth in the 2011 World Championships. She produced the fastest 100m of her life with the national record at the Jamaican trials earlier this year and looks the one to beat. Defending World Champion Carmelita Jeter is the 11/4 (sportingbet/BetVictor/Stan James) second favourite for Gold. The American, with Veronica Campbell-Brown of Jamaica (6/1-sportingbet), will provide the challenge to Fraser-Pryce. The best bet could be Blessing Okagabre to win a medal at 12/5 (Titesport/betfred). The Nigerian was a recent winner of Grand Prix races in London and Monaco and the 24 year-old looks value to be among the medals.

200M: Campbell-Brown (9/1-Totesport/betfred), Jeter (9/1-BetVictor/Bwin) and Fraser-Pryce (10/1-general) are all again expected to be in the mix, but it is Allyson Felix who is the 8/15 (Bodog) favourite for the 200m. The American is a three-time world champion and will hope to finally land that elusive Olympic Gold. In what looks an open race this is probably one to keep the stakes small.

400M: Sanya Richards Ross is reported to be in the best shape of her life according to her coach, but the evens (ladbrokes) seems a little short on an athlete who has a history of disappointments in the major championships. World leader Antonia Krivoshapka (6/1-Stan James), world champion Amantle Montsho (6/1-sportingbet/BetVictor/You Win) and defending Olympic champion Christine Ohuruogu (8/1-general) are all expected to be in the mix.

100M HURDLES: Sally Pearson is the one having suffered just two defeats (one of these was a non-finish) in the last two years. The Australian won Gold at the World Championships in 2011 and then again in the World Indoor Championships at Istanbul. Bookmakers make her the 4/7 (ladbrokes/william hill). The nearest challenge is likely to come from Kellie Wells who handed Pearson one of those defeats in London recently. She is a 4/1 (Totesport/betfred) chance to snatch the Gold here. US duo Dawn Harper (12/1-paddy Power) and Brigitte Foster-Hylton (16/1-paddy Power) are also expected to be in the mix. The outside medal hope is Turkey’s Nevin Yanit who won gold in the European Championships at Helsinki and looks 5/1 (Totesport/betfred/BWin) to claim a medal.

400m HURDLES: This looks the most open of all the sprints, with bookmakers pricing up four women at 7/1 or under. The favourite is defending world champion Lashinda Demus (4/1-Skybet/sportingbet/BetVictor). Next in the market is Natalya Antyukh who has the fastest time in the world this year. The Russian is rated a 4/1 (Bodog) hope. Third in the market comes Brit Perri Shakes-Drayton who at 6/1 (Stan James) could be the value, coming here on the back of a victory at the London Grand Prix. One of the Women she held off at that time was Russian Irina Davydova and the european champion is a 7/1 (sportingbet/BetVictor/ladbrokes) hope.

RELAYS: The sprint relay looks like being a straight battle for the Gold between the US and Jamaica. The US are the 11/10 (Totesport/betfred/You Win) favourites after they won at the World Championships. If you think Jamaica can gain revenge and claim the gold this time then You Win is the place to go as they are offering 13/10. The 4X400 relay has the US as the evens (ladbrokes/sportingbet) favourites. The Russians at 9/5 (Totesport/betfred) are expected to provide the closest challenge.
