The omens are not good for Aberdeen on the opening weekend, Celtic have not lost an SPL opener since the 1997/98 season and the Dons have not won any of their last 13 against the Bhoys. Bookmakers think Celtic will get off to a good start in the season opener and have priced them at 3/10 (william hill/pinnacle). Those who think Celtic may be distracted by their Champions League game in midweek can 5/1 (general) the draw or 12/1 (SkyBet/BetVictor/BWin) an Aberdeen victory. Anthony Stokes netted in two of the three head to head meetings last season and is 4/1 (ladbrokes/william hill) to grab the opener here while Gary Hooper is 7/2 (ladbrokes). Keep an eye on team news, but if Kris Commons can shake off a knock he looks value at 7/1 (ladbrokes) for the first goal in this game. The midfielder likes to get forward and can shoot from a distance. Scott Vernon at 4/1 (SkyBet/BlueSq/888Bet) in the anytime scorer market also looks worth some interest.

After the lunchtime live game we have four 3pm games with both the promoted teams in action. Ross County take on Motherwell and are 30/17 (pinnacle) to start the season with three points. The stats are not in their favour though as just two of the last nine promoted teams won on week one. Their opponents Motherwell lost just once on the road to a side outside of the top six last season (Kilmarnock) and might appeal to some at 31/18 (pinnacle). Though the best way to play this might be the 10/11 (ladbrokes/Coral/william hill) that Motherwell are successful on the draw no bet market.

Dundee also got promoted following the disqualification of Rangers for financial irregularities and they open their campaign away to Kilmarnock. 20/19 (Pinnacle) on Kilmarnock starting the season with three points seems reasonable value on a side who have lost just one of their last six SPL home games. Kilmarnock are a very open attacking side and it might also be worth chancing the Evens (Coral) on both teams to score.

Also kicking off Saturday 3pm is Hearts up against St Johnstone. Bookmakers make Hearts the 11/10 (BetVictor/William Hill) favourites to claim all three points, while St Johnstone are 16/5 (ladbrokes/paddy Power). The Jambos have won just two of their last eight home games against St Johnstone and the travelling side could be worth chancing on the draw no bet market at 7/4 (general).

The final 3:00pm kick-off is a game between St Mirren and Inverness CT. Both sides have lost a number of key players this summer and both could be expected to struggle this season. The last two meetings between these sides have been low scoring games and that might be the way to play this one.

Sunday sees the second live game of the weekend as Dundee Utd take on Hibernian. The home side are the 8/11 (Coral) favourites, the draw is 3/1 (BetVictor) while the Hibernian away win is priced at 9/2 (BetVictor/paddy Power). Those looking for a first scorer bet might be interested in Jon Daly, who top scored in the SPL last season, at 4/1 (general). While it will not be a shock to see him among the goals the value seems to be Leigh Griffiths at 17/2 (bet365). The Hibernian man grabbed 11 goals during his loan spell from Wolves last season and should be among the goals again this season.

In addition this weekend sees a number of Scottish League Cup games and bookmakers are priced up on these games, why not try an accumulator on some of these games?
