Football League Preview

With a busy fixture list of action in the Football League on Tuesday and Wednesday we look through the games to find the best betting value.

Despite letting us down at the weekend I am still sticking with Huddersfield who are good value at 11/5 (william hill) to defeat Leicester. Sometimes you can over-react to one loss and the 11/5 available seems to be such a reaction as Huddersfield are still in sixth place and just one point behind opponents Leicester. True the Foxes are in great form winning their last three games however the price is just too generous on the home side. Those who like the draw on their side can get that as Coral are offering 5/4 Huddersfield in the draw no bet market. Despite a home defeat against Middlesbrough on Saturday I still think Boro look value to see off Derby on Wednesday night. The Rams had a tough battle with Forest on Sunday and might find it hard to go again so soon after. Before the weekend results the home side had won all three home games this season and the away side had lost all three. Look for the normal sequence of results to return and take the 5/4 (pinnacle) are offering on a home victory.

Into League One we go and the best bet there is the 23/20 (sportingbet) are offering on the home victory. County have won six of their last eight home games and should be able to see off Stevenage here. The visitors are difficult opponents though they have won just one of their last four and I think the class of the home side can see them through here. I also like the look of Walsall at home to Leyton Orient at 5/4 (william hill). It is four wins from the last five games for the Saddlers and manager Dean Smith must be delighted with the way his side have started the season. Orient have won just one of their last eight away games and I don’t expect them to get anything out of this game. Those who like to play the overs markets might want to look at the game between Yeovil and Portsmouth. Each of the last six Pompey games have seen three or more goals while the same is true of two of the last three Yeovil games.

The best bet in League Two is Northampton at 6/5 (Stan James) in the draw no bet market against Gillingham. The home side are unbeaten in their last five home games and picked up a good point at Burton at the weekend. Their opponents Gilligham suffered their first loss of the season at home to Rochdale on Saturday and it will be interesting to see how they react to this setback. I think it is worth chancing that they do not bounce back to form right away. In addition I like the look of both teams to score in the Southend v Burton game at 20/27 (Bodog). This would have paid in each of the last four Burton games and in five of the last six Southend games. A little value bet could be in backing Michael Spillane to score against Port Vale. The Dagenham & Redbridge player is on penalties and is 16/1 (bet365) to score first or 5/1 (bet365/william hill) to score at anytime. This would have paid out in the last two Dagenham & Redbridge games.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Middlesbrough to beat Derby at home 5/4 (pinnacle)
SILVER: Notts County to beat Stevenage at home 23/20 (Sporting Bet)
BRONZE: Huddersfield to beat Leicester at home 11/5 (William Hill)
