It is a busy midweek of action in the Football League and we will have a full preview of all the action later first though let us look at how the outright markets are shaping up.

Eight games in and three teams sit top of the Championship table with 16 points. Cardiff are one of these sides and bookmakers make them the 13/2 (bet365/ladbrokes) favourites for the title. We have been keen on the chances of the Bluebirds for a while now and we have seen nothing to put us off that. No side in this division can compete with the firepower they possess in Craig Bellamy, Heidar Helguson, Nicky Maynard, Tommy Smith, Joe Mason and Peter Whittingham. Two clean sheets from the last three games shows they are no mugs at the back either. If you are not already involved with Cardiff then I would recommend doing so.

Blackburn are 7/1 (Coral/william hill) for the title though until we know just who the manager is it a price worth avoiding. The talent at the club though is impressive and with Rhodes, Gomez, Rochina the front line has goals in them. The Midfield of Dunn, Pedersen, Ethuhu, Murphy must also be among the strongest in the league. This is a side that will be in the mix come the end of season if they get the manager choice right. I like the look of Wolves who have won their last four games in the league and their two defeats have been away to Leeds and Cardiff both of whom are strong home sides. In Doyle and Ebanks Blake they have a real goal threat while manager Stale Solbakken seems to have a real eye for a bargain. They look solid, well drilled and at 8/1 (general) they look worth a little interest.

Tranmere are still the early pace-setters despite their 1-1 draw with Brentford at the weekend. The Merseysiders are now three points clear at the top of the table and are still available at 14/1 (BetVictor). I stated in the League One preview of the weekend games that Notts County were my selection for the title and I still maintain that faith. They picked up a very useful point against Sheff Utd at the weekend and are available at a generous 9/1 (general). Bookmakers make the MK Dons the 9/2 (general) favourites ahead of Sheffield United who are 11/2 (paddy Power) while Swindon are also available at 11/2 (general).

In League Two it is Gillingham and Rotherham who are joint 9/2 (general) favourites. The bookmakers seem keen on Rotherham despite them being some eight points behind Gillingham. Fleetwood are also highly fancied at 5/1 (general). The value to me though lies in two sides at double figure price the first of which is Port Vale. Vale are in second place with 19 points just three behind the leaders yet are available at a value 14/1 (188Bet). The second recommendation is Rochdale at 33/1 (188Bet) who beat Gillingham at the weekend to make it ten points from their last twelve. Note that 188bet do not pay each-way so those who want to get involved that way can get them at 28/1 (boylesports).

Finally in the Conference Premier Forest Green Rovers have a one point lead at the top of the table and are 9/2 (boylesports) for the title. Second placed Newport County are available at 8/1 (BetVictor/Coral). Wrexham and Luton are level on points in third and they can be had at 5/1 (Wrexham) and 5/2 (Luton).
