Premier League Markets

Chelsea have a three point lead at the top of the Premier League after six games. The Blues are now 10/3 (paddy Power) for the title following a victory at Arsenal on Saturday. It was the first serious test proved to the London side and they passed it. No side possess the midfield talent that they do and Di Matteo seems to be finding a way to fit the talents of Hazard, Mata and Oscar all into the same side without upsetting the balance too much.

It is Man City who are the 12/7 (32 Red) favourites for the title ahead of Man Utd at 23/10 (32 Red). These two had mixed weekends with City emerging victorious at Fulham while the Red Devils suffered a rare home loss as they went down to Tottenham. Both sides are now on 12 points four behind Chelsea.

Second placed Everton are the shock early form team and they are 80/1 (general) for the title while Arsenal are 12/1 (general) and Spurs are 50/1 (general).

One market worth focusing in on is the Next Manager to Leave Post market. I think Chris Hughton must be the bet here at 8/1 (BetVictor). Though Norwich fans never expected to beat Liverpool it was the manner of defeat that upset so many Canaries supporters. Replacing Paul Lambert was never going to be easy though the former Birmingham boss has not really helped himself with some strange tactical decisions including leaving out Wes Hoolahan and Grant Holt, selecting Michael Turner over Ryan Bennett and replacing Simeon Jackson at half-time against Liverpool. The Norwich board are known to be patient though as Steve Kean found out if you lose the fans eventually you must pay for this with your job. If you look at the other candidates in the market Southampton have shown some promising signs recently while QPR have some winnable games in upcoming week which could see Nigel Adkins and Mark Hughes survive a while longer than bookmakers think.

The relegation market has Reading the 8/11 (general) favourites though the Royals have some winnable games ahead and have offered improved performances of late proving unlucky not to get all three points against Newcastle. Norwich are 4/5 (ladbrokes/Bodog) after their 5-2 defeat to Liverpool and with Arsenal and Chelsea to play in the next two that price will not get any better. Also expected to struggle are Southampton (evens-Skybet), Wigan (7/4-general), Aston Villa (4/1-ladbrokes), QPR (4/1-BetVictor) and Swansea 4/1(ladbrokes). It looks a tough market to call and I expect to see a number of these prices rise and fall on a weekly basis. If you have a strong opinion it might best to exercise a little patience and a look at the fixture list to work out the best time to make the investment.

Robin Van Persie has five Premier League goals this season and bookmakers make him 3/1 (BetVictor/paddy Power/william hill) to be top scorer. Fernando Torres is available at 7/1 (general) while Carlos Tevez is 15/2 (paddy Power). Dembe Ba (who leads the way with six goals) would look the value at 20/1 (BetVictor) if it were not for the threat of the African Nations Cup so keep an eye on the second leg between the Ivory Coast and Senegal. Instead the bet should be Steven Fletcher who has grabbed five this season and can only improve when Adam Johnson is fully fit. The 25/1 (BetVictor/ladbrokes) are offering looks great value on a player who has looked prolific in front of goal for the Black Cats.
