Super Hoops super bets to hammer Irons

Premier League

Queens Park Rangers has yet to score a English Premier League goal at home this season and West Ham has yet to find the back of the net in the competition away from the Boleyn Ground so some punters will head straight for the 0-0 draw.

But such are the defensive troubles of both clubs that a goalless draw between the teams from opposites sides of London is unlikely. Indeed, it is more likely to be a high-scoring match in which the Super Hoops prevail.

Bookmakers are betting on the capital derby as if Queens Park Rangers and the Hammers are, in effect, equal. Home odds of around 6-5 indicate that, as far as bookmakers are concerned, there is very little to choose between the teams and that they are likely to finish close to each other in the English Premier League after this term`s 38 rounds.

The Super Hoops have started poorly - two draws and three losses, including a 0-5 home capitulation to Swansea on the opening day of the season - but such is their strength in depth that they should climb above West Ham as we move from autumn into winter and then into spring provided that Mark Hughes gets the time from his bosses to sort out everything.

And it is not as if the Hammers have been brilliant in their five English Premier League games. They have had one of the softest introductions to the top flight in living memory, with their first five matches being Aston Villa (home), Swansea (away), Fulham (home), Norwich (away) and Sunderland (home). All of those sides could end up in the bottom half.

The Canaries are the only team that both Queens Park Rangers and West Ham have faced, with the Super Hoops drawing 1-1 at Carrow Road and the Hammers drawing 0-0 at the same venue. QPR gave as good as it got, though, whereas West Ham was on retreat for most of its game versus Chris Hughton`s side.

The Super Hoops were very good in their first half of their 1-2 loss at Tottenham last week, with Hughes left to scratch his head at how they came away with nothing. The answer for which their manager was looking was that they experienced two slices of bad lack in as many second-half minutes.

One gets the feeling that Queens Park Rangers is going to turn the corner sooner or later and, a home match against a West Ham team that has not excelled in spite of the kind of draw for which Reading and Southampton would have killed, is a great opportunity for the Super Hoops to get on track.

That the Hammers have the highest average English Premier League foul count - they have got on the wrong side of referees 71 times in five games - is a statistic that supports the view that they have struggled on their return to the elite in spite of a relatively soft schedule. Also, they have the worst possession numbers in the division.

Snap up the odds-against quotes about Queens Park Rangers beating West Ham at Loftus Road and lifting itself not only off the bottom of the English Premier League ladder but also out of the relegation zone. The Super Hoops should be either evens or 10-11 to accrue maximum points on their home pitch.
