1938 was the year that Great Britain last had a player in the Mens’ Singles Final at Wimbledon, over 70 years the home supporters have had to wait. Scotsman Andy Murray may never have a better chance than this to make the final after the exit of Rafa Nadal opened his quarter of the draw. Murray is first out on centre-court tomorrow where he will face Frenchman Jo Wilfried-Tsonga. The Scot is the 4/9 (general) favourite to win the match. Murray leads the head-to-head record 5-1 and has won both of their previous meetings on grass, including in the 2010 Wimbledon Quarter-Finals. Murray has made the semi-finals of Wimbledon three times in the last three years and gone out each time. Roddick beat him in 2009, Nadal in 2010 and 2011, can Tsonga add his name to this list in 2012. Those who think the Frenchman can get the better of Murray here can get 2/1 (boylesports).

The Scot has dropped at least one set in two of his last three matches and betting on the ’Correct Set Score’ market might be the way to play it. Murray to win this 3-1 is best priced at 14/5 (sportingbet), while Murray to win a five set thriller is 6/1 (sportingbet). Those who fancy Tsonga to come through can the Frenchman to win in four at 13/2 (betfred) and in five at 7/1 (general). Those who don’t want to specify a winner but think the game can go long can bet on the amount of sets, either betting on the over 3.5 sets market on offer from bet365 and paddy Power or on the amount of sets that will take place. The game to take place in three sets is 17/11 (Bwin), four sets at 8/5 (boylesports/Bet Victor) and five sets at 23/10 (Boylesports/Bet Victor).

The other semi-final will see Novak Djokovic take on Roger Federer. Djokovic is 4/9 (ladbrokes) to book a fifth consecutive grand slam final. His opponent is Roger Federer a six time Wimbledon Champion. Federer leads the head to head record against the Serbian and is 11/5 (Boylesports/sportingbet) to claim victory here and book his place in the final. The Swiss ace though does not have a good recent record against Djokovic, winning just one of their last seven meetings. These two have never met on grass.

Djokovic has looked strong en-route to the final just dropping one set, against Stepanek, in round three and will appeal to some in the 3-0 correct score market. The Djokovic clean sweep of sets is priced at just 40/17 (Bwin). This was the result when the pair met in the semi-finals of the French Open. Djokovic to win 3-1 is priced at 14/5 (Sportingbet/Bodog) while Djokovic to edge it in five sets is 6/1 (Sportingbet/Stan James). Federer to come through in four is 7/1 (betfred), in five is 9/1 (Stan James) and three 12/1 (Stan James).

Those interested in an outright bet at this stage of events will see that Novak Djokovic is favourite at 8/11 (ladbrokes) to make it back-to-back Wimbledon titles. Roger Federer is the second favourite at 17/4 (Sportingbet). Those who think Andy Murray can be the first British male since Fred Perry to lift the trophy can get 9/2 (general). Those who think that Jo Wilfried-Tsonga can spring two big shocks and become champion can get 12/1 (Sportingbet/boylesports).

It promises to be a great semi-final Friday and British fans will hope that Andy Murray can have them hopping with delight (sorry) after emulating Bunny Austin.
