The market for top League One goalscorer looks wide open with the top five finishers last season no longer in the league (for various reasons) with bookmakers pricing three players at 16/1. One of those players is Chris Porter (bet365) the Sheffield United striker is expected to fill the void created by the absence of Ched Evans. The forward is likely to score a number of goals in a team that is expected to launch a strong challenge for the title. Porter though grabbed just six goals last season and it is probably a leap of faith to be backing him here. Richard Creswell is another Sheff Utd player at 16/1 (bet365) and he is also expected to feature prominently this season for the Blades, the price is likely a reflection on the fact that Sheff U were top scorers in the league last season. The second highest scorers in the league last season were the MK Dons, but it is hard to side with any of their players. They have assembled a real range of forward talent with Ryan Lowe, Charlie McDonald, Dean Bowditch and Jabo Ibehre are among those likely to split the minutes.

The third player priced at 16/1 (bet365/betfred/BetVictor) is Andy Williams. The striker grabbed 16 goals last season in this league for Yeovil and has made the switch to a Swindon side led by Paolo Di Canio. The 25 year-old forward is expected to be among the goals and looks one to respect. Another to respect is Matt Tubbs who is a 20/1 (bet365) chance to finish as top scorer after firing in the goals for Crawley in the Conference and League Two. Tubbs completed an £800,000 move to Bournemouth in the January transfer window, before injury put paid to his campaign in April. It would be no surprise to see the player get back among the goals, but with fitness concerns it is not a price that encourages a bet just now. Another 20/1 (Bet365) hope is Lewis Grabban who has joined Bournemouth from Rotherham in League Two. Grabban grabbed 18 goals last season and will welcome the step back to League One. His scoring record at this level has always been solid if unspectacular though and other players seem to represent better value.

Lee Miller at 40/1 (BetVictor) looks a great each-way bet to finish as top scorer. The player scored 14 goals in 33 games for Carlisle last season before his season came to an abrupt end in April with the very sad death of his wife. Miller will return this season hungry for goals and will be the main man in a Carlisle side that could surprise a few people this season. Another each-way hope is Clayton Donaldson, the striker arrived at Brentford after banging in the goals in League Two for Crewe. He took a longer time to adjust to the league than expected and only grabbed five goals before March, but the last two months saw him grab six goals and if he comes out of the traps flying he could double that tally this season.

Another each-way punt is Michael Symes who grabbed just seven goals in the league last season. Symes though can be expected to add to that tally this season as he has made the switch to Leyton Orient (where he is expected to see more playing time). Playing off Kevin Lisbie could prevent him with plenty of chances and bearing in mind he got four goals in his last eight appearances in League one last season, (for Rochdale on loan) he looks worth some each-way interest at 80/1 with BetVictor.
