Premier League Preview 6th April

Just four Premier League games take place this Saturday and here is our guide to the best of the bets from these matches.

December 8th saw Nigel Adkins lead his Southampton side to a 1-0 victory over Reading. Fast forward four months and Adkins will once again look to mastermind victory in this game just from a different dugout. The former Saints boss will be desperate to do the business over his old team in a must win game for Reading. The Royals look a little overpriced at 7/3 (pinnacle) or 11/8 (betfred/paddy Power) in the draw no bet market. Nobody will know the strengths and weaknesses of the Saints like Adkins and after big wins against Chelsea and Liverpool the visitors might be ready to take their foot off the gas a little. The Royals are seven paints from safety while the Saint are in the relative safety of 12th place. Southampton have won just two away games in the league this season and they look worth taking on here, but be sure to keep the draw on side.

Norwich and Swansea have followed a similar trajectory with both sides securing promotion from the Championship in the same year and then defying the critics to secure safety in their first Premier League season. Swansea though have pushed on a little since the appointment of Michael Laudrup and have the security of mid-table finish and europé next season. The Canaries meanwhile are looking over their shoulder at the relegation slots. It is a tough game to call as the Canaries will probably have the greater desire to win though in reverse that means Swansea can play with greater freedom. Bookmakers have Norwich as the 17/10 (BetVictor) favourites with Swansea 2/1 (888 Sport) and the draw 12/5 (general). The Canaries are in a position where they can not afford to lose and with four of the last five league games at Carrow Road ending drawn then the 12/5 on the draw looks the way to play this game.

The bet of the day on Saturday is in taking Aston Villa to get something from their visit to Stoke. Villa are 22/7 (pinnacle) to grab a victory or the draw is 5/2 (Totesport). The way I would recommend playing it is in the Asian Handicap market where Villa +0.5 is 6/7 (Pinnacle) which will pay out on either the Villa win or the draw. Stoke have taken just one point from their last five league games and are struggling to find the net grabbing just once in these games. Villa have goals in them and with just two losses from their last eight away from home (at the Emirates and Stamford Bridge) they look worth siding with here.

Arsenal are evens (Stan James) to register victory at West Brom and this might appeal to some especially the way the Baggies were so poor at West Ham last time out. A word of caution though West Brom have a good record at home and will work hard to frustrate the Gunners. Those looking for a bet on the game might be best suited looking to other markets and it is the anytime scorer market where I would recommend a small play. Romelu Lukaku has netted three times in his last two home games. His pace and strength will cause the Gunners some problems and at 5/2 (BWin) he looks worth a play to net at anytime.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Aston Villa +0.5 on the Asian Handicap v Stoke, 6/7 (Pinnacle)
SILVER: Reading draw no bet v Southampton, 11/8 (betfred/paddy Power)
BRONZE: A draw in the game between Norwich and Swansea, 12/5 (general)
