The West Indies commence their tour of India this week with a one day series starting on the 8th October and Richie Richardson and his team are in for a difficult time on the road. There will be a total of five one day internationals and also a three test series, with the one day series kicking things off in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Kochi.

With not much time remaining before the ICC World Cup in 2015, now is a good time for teams to start their preparations and begin to form their one day teams. West Indies have got a tough schedule ahead of them, with the upcoming tour in India followed by a trip to South Africa, which is due to start on December 10th of this year. Without the injured Chris Gayle, who is a major loss for his side, West Indies will be happy with the return of Jerome Taylor to the set-up and also pleased that the core of the squad, which has been in place for some time, is still there. However, the recent loss of spin bowler Sunil Narine will be a blow, having been called up for a suspect action and sent home by the West Indies Cricket Board. He has been replaced in the squad by Sulieman Benn.

India will be happy to be back on home soil following their tour of England and are favourites to win the opening encounter of the one day series with odds of 1/3 from bet365. The core of that touring team has remained for this series with the addition of some new, young spin bowlers, perhaps with the approaching world cup in mind. This means no place in the squad for off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, for the first three ODI`s at least and call up`s for both Kuldeep Yadav and Amit Mishra. The former has been impressing recently in the Champions Trophy Twenty20 and will be looking to use this series as way to cement a place in the squad for the world cup. Yadav is curently 4/1 with bet365 to finish the match as the top India bowler, with Amit Mishra the favourite as 3/1 with the same firm.

Indian batsman Ajinkya Rahane, despite finishing the ODI series in England with a duck, still managed to score a century and two +40 scores and is 11/2 with paddypower to finish the game as the best batsman.

Although the West Indies are placed as outsiders for this opening game, 5/2 with SkyBet, they have a number of players who have been playing in the Indian Premier League and Champions League T20, which means they will be used to the conditions they will be facing in this ODI series. In fact, Dwayne Smith and Dwayne Bravo have both just tasted success, winning the Champions League T20 with Chennai Super Kings. Smith is 4/1 with BetVictor to be the West Indies` top batsman in this first game, with Bravo at 7/2 with paddypower to be the top bowler for the West Indies and they will both be looking back to November 2013, when the West Indies last defeated India in a ODI for inspiration. That day, Darren Sammy held his nerve as other batsmen failed and he can be backed at 100/1 to come out as the top batsmen in this match. It is also worth noting that the West Indies played that match without Chris Gayle, who is missing again this time around with injury.

India are currently 1/7 with paddypower to win the 5 match ODI series, with West Indies priced at 9/2 with the same firm.
