Last season Alan Pardew and Roberto Mancini were candidates to be Manager of the Year, fast forward a few months and both managers are under pressure from small sections of their support. Newcastle find themselves in 14th place with just one win in ten games. City meanwhile find themselves some six points behind their neighbours Man Utd in the race for the title.

If you think City can bounce back from their 3-2 loss to Man Utd last week then you can get them at 7/10 (BetVictor/william hill/pinnacle) for the victory while the home side Newcastle are 24/5 (Stan James) and the draw is a best priced 3/1 (Stan James/ladbrokes). The head-to-head record favours City who are unbeaten in their last 11 with Newcastle in the league, winning nine of these. The first goalscorer market is headed by Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero both of whom are 5/1 (Tevez with Skybet, Aguero with bet365). Edin Dzeko is 6/1 (ladbrokes) as is Mario Balotelli (general). Those looking to back a Newcastle player can get Dembe Ba at 8/1 (bet365/BWin) while Papiss Cisse is 9/1 (paddy Power). Yaya Toure scored two in this fixture last season and is a 9/1 (general) chance while David Silva is 10/1 (ladbrokes).

Bookmakers expect goals here with both teams to score at 4/5 (betfred/Coral) and over 2.5 goals priced at 6/7 (pinnacle). Man City though have kept clean sheets in their last three Premier League away games and the Magpies have fired blanks in their last two home encounters with sides from Manchester so be careful with those bets.

The last six Man City Premier League away games have been level at HT and it might pay to side with the draw at HT which can be backed at 11/8 (BetVictor). City will look to tighten up after leaking three last week while Newcastle themselves (outside of the Wigan result) have been struggling for goals at home.

The other live game on Saturday in England is in the Championship as Barnsley take on Sheffield Wednesday. Those two sides are struggling in the league with the Tykes 22nd and the Owls 23rd. Barnsley are 8/5 (BetVictor/william hill) for victory though they have not won in the league since October 20th. The Tykes have shown a little bit of life in recent weeks drawing three of their last five (and there is no disgrace in losing to Cardiff and Watford).

Opponents Wednesday are on an even worse run though losing each of their last seven and if they lose here this must surely spell the end for manager Dave Jones. It is 2/1 (general) a Wednesday win and the draw is 87/35 (pinnacle).

I think Barnsley must be backed at at 5/6 on the Asian Handicap 0 line with pinnacle which will refund stakes if the game ends in a draw. The Tykes have picked up draws with solid outfits like Bolton, Burnley and Leicester in recent weeks and in Akos Buzsaky have Premier League class player who can control this game alongside the industrious Jonathan Greening.

The first goalscorer market is headed by Craig Davies at 11/2 (bet365/BetVictor), Emile Sinclair is a 13/2 (Totesport/betfred) chance while Chris O’Grady is a 7/1 (general) chance as is Jay Bothroyd (bet365/Blue Sq/888 Sport) and former Wednesday player Marcus Tudgay is also a 7/1 (Totesport/betfred/BetVictor) chance.

The last bet on this game is in the under 2.5 goals market which can be had at 20/19 (Pinnacle). This would have paid in eight of the ten Barnsley home games this season and in six of the last nine (including the last two) Wednesday away games.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Barnsley 0 on Asian Handicap line, 5/6 (Pinnacle)
SILVER: Under 2.5 goals in Barnsley v Sheff Wed, 20/19 (Pinnacle)
BRONZE: HT draw Newcastle v Man City, 11/8 (BetVictor)
