The NFL play-offs get underway this weekend here and here is a look at how the outright markets are shaping up for Super Bowl XLVII.

THE AFC

Denver are the 3/1 (general) favourites after securing the number one seed in the AFC. The Peyton Manning return has been remarkable after he missed all of the previous season with injury. The Broncos have veteran leadership in Manning and the second ranked defence this season. Denver looks the side to beat as they have won 11 in a row and all by seven points or more and are 11/8 (ladbrokes) to secure the AFC title which I think this looks a value bet with home advantage all the way through.

The nearest challenge to the Broncos is likely to come from New England. The Patriots are 13/8 (You Win) for the AFC and no side has more big game experience than New England.

Further down the stats are not good for the other sides with the AFC conference winner coming from the top two seeds the past five years and in nine of the last eleven.

Houston suffered three defeats in December as they found themselves falling from number one seed all the way down to number three. If anyone is going to upset the top two it is the Texans who are 44/5 (pinnacle) for the AFC.

Baltimore are 12/1 (general) for the conference though four losses in the last five games does not inspire confidence. Victory over the Colts on the opening weekend is probably as much as the Ravens can achieve as I can not see them beating the Patriots or the Broncos. Cincinnati Bengals are 33/1 (paddy Power) for the AFC while the Indianapolis Colts are 35/1 (You Win).

NFC

San Francisco are the 5/2 (general) favourites for the NFC in a conference that looks wide open to me. The 49ers have blown hot and cold this season and it is unclear which team will turn up for the play-offs. A week of rest will help them but I could not be trusting them at that price with Quarterback Colin Kaepernick not in the class of some of the others in this conference.

The Falcons are 13/5 (Skybet/william hill) and the top seed will benefit from home advantage. Atlanta will face the lowest qualifying seed which will either be Seattle, Minnesota or Washington. Falcons need to hope that the Vikings see off the Packers as both the Seahawks and Redskins represent tough opponents in great form.

If you think the Packers experience will see them through the NFC then ladbrokes is the place to go at 7/2 though first they must see off Minnesota which I am not convinced that they can. Adrian Peterson has been unstoppable for the Packers in recent meetings and I am not sure that Green Bay have the answers to him.

The complete outsides are the Minnesota Vikings 30/1 (pinnacle) though I could see them seeing off Green Bay I am not sure they have enough to win three games in a row.

I would recommend taking Seattle at 13/2 (Pinnacle) and Washington at 137/10 (Pinnacle). to win the conference as both teams possess talented quarterbacks and enter in great form. Seattle have won their last five games and seven of their last eight while Washington are on an incredible seven game winning streak.I think it is worth chancing that whoever wins this game can come through the NFC.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Denver to win the AFC, 11/8 (ladbrokes)
SILVER: Seattle Seahawks to win the NFC, 13/2 (Pinnacle)
BRONZE: Washington Redskins to win the NFC, 137/10 (Pinnacle)
