As the FA Cup Third Round takes centre stage this weekend now is a perfect time to look at how the outright markets in the Premier League are shaping up.

Man United are seven points clear at the top of the table and bookmakers make them 4/11 (Coral) favourites to lift the trophy. The next two games could go a long way to deciding the title as the Red Devils play host to Liverpool before an away game at Tottenham (who have already beaten them this season at Old Trafford). If United come out of these two games with maximum points then it looks a tough ask for Man City to catch them. It is 7/2 (You Win) that City win the title and they will be helped by not having the unwelcome distraction of the Europa League. City fans will be left in the strange position of cheering on their rivals to go far in Europe as United are still in the Champions League. After losing to QPR it appears that the title hopes of Chelsea are over as they are now 13 points behind United. Instead the race for them is for a slot in the Champions League and they are 1/5 (Coral) to finish in the top four. Tottenham are one point ahead of them (having played a game more) yet they can still be backed at 5/4 (BetVictor) a top four finish. I would rather be with Spurs at this price as they welcome back a number of key players from injury and have a nice balance through the team. Also pushing for a top four place are Arsenal 11/10 (bet365), Everton 9/2 (paddy Power/ladbrokes/Coral) and Liverpool 8/1 (general).

West Brom are currently near the Champions League slots though I think they do not have the squad depth and will be happy to finish in the top ten for which they are 1/2 (Stan James) to do so. It is 8/11 (Stan James) Stoke, Evens (ladbrokes) Swansea, 2/1 (Skybet/Stan James/ladbrokes) 2/1 West Ham (Skybet/Stan James/ladbrokes), Fulham are 9/4 (ladbrokes), Norwich are 4/1 (ladbrokes) and Newcastle 5/1 (Skybet/BetVictor/ladbrokes) for a top half spot.

At the other end of the table Reading and QPR are five points adrift at the bottom of the table and it is 1/6 (Coral) that Reading go down while QPR are 1/2 (Coral/william hill). Southampton are 5/4 (BetVictor) for relegation while the same firm have Aston Villa at 2/1. Coral and william hill have Wigan at 2/1 to go down while North Eastern duo Sunderland and Newcastle are 8/1 (general). Those looking for a back-to-lay bet might want to consider Norwich at 11/1 (ladbrokes) as they have a tough run of games ahead. While the Canaries can feel hard done by from poor decisions it does not hide the fact that they were awful at West Ham. The gap is now seven to 18th and the next three games (Newcastle H, Liverpool A, Tottenham H) could return no points. Norwich have the games and points in the bank to stay up just at 11/1 this could easily be laid off later when fixtures pick up.

The best bet is Robin Van Persie at 6/4 (BetVictor/paddy Power) to be named PFA Player of the Year. Roberto Mancini himself has said that the player is the difference between the two sides and if he finishes (as expected) with over 20 goals playing for the title winners then I can not see how the Dutchman does not win this award.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Robin Van Persie PFA Player of the Year, 6/4 (BetVictor/paddy Power)
SILVER: Tottenham to finish in the top four, 5/4 (BetVictor)
BRONZE: Norwich to be relegated at 11/1 (ladbrokes) with the view to lay the bet later.
