Aston Villa Host QPR In Basement Battle

Premier League

There`s a battle at the bottom end of the Premier League tonight as Aston Villa host QPR. The West Midland side currently sit just one place above the relegation places and would fall into the bottom three should they lose to second bottom Rangers. A win for Tim Sherwood`s side would, however, catapult them above both Hull and Sunderland and see them closer to Premier League survival.

Whilst a victory for Chris Ramsay`s away side would see them usurp both Burnley and Villa, losing on their travels would see them in the undesirable position of still occupying one of the relegation places having played one game more than those teams around them. A draw would put them level on points with Burnley, who are making a good fist of top tier survival, superseding them only due to their superior goal difference.

The two clubs have met once this season, this being at QPR`s Loftus Road in the reverse fixture in the Premier League. A goal in either half saw the home side run out the 2-0 winners in this clash, both goals being scored by their top scorer Charlie Austin.

Betvictor have 21/1 on the London club being able to win by two goals to nil once again whilst a win to nil for Ramsey`s men can be backed at the best price of 11/2 at a trio of bookmakers (Betvictor, Coral, Totesport). betway`s 3/1 says that one team will beat the other by a margin of two goals with paddy Power`s 16/1 the price on Charlie Austin grabbing another two or more goals against Aston Villa tonight.

If these prices seem big it is because it is Villa who are the favourites to take all three points away from this home encounter. The best price on a home win by any means is 23/20, available at all of bet365, Betvictor, paddy Power and william hill. Both Betvictor and boylesports have 29/10 on QPR securing themselves an all-important win on the road with a draw up for grabs at 5/2 (betfred, Totesport).

Despite their favouritism Sherwood`s men have failed to pick up a point in either of their last two matches, their home record equally as poor having earned themselves just three points from a maximum of 15 in their last five games at Villa Park. This win came against local rivals West Bromwich Albion, Gabby Agbonlahor and Christian Benteke both bagging goals in the 2-1 victory. Benteke is the favourite to score a goal at any time tonight, up for grabs at 19/10 at Bwin. Otherwise, Agbonlahor can be picked up at 12/5 at Spreadex.

Prior to their last home game (a 1-0 defeat against Swansea), the Villans had managed to score at least one goal in three straight games. Most bookmakers have 1/4 on them hitting the back of the net over 0.5 times whilst william hill`s 5/4 is the price on them scoring over 1.5 goals.

The club`s last clean sheet at home came in a goalless draw with Crystal Palace on New Year`s Day.

QPR`s 4-1 win over West Brom at the weekend ended a run of five Premier League games without picking up even a point. The Hoops had, however, scored in every match in the intervening period with 10/11 (betfred, Coral, William Hill) the price available on both teams scoring tonight. Betbright`s 49/4 says that exactly five goals will be scored in the second successive Rangers` tie.

The London side have picked up six points in their last five away games, scoring nine goals and conceding the same amount. In only two of these matches (those being the matches they won) did Rangers score the first goal with Bwin`s 4/5 on Villa scoring first tonight.
