Andy Murray has admitted he must be ’Mr Perfect’ to secure his first ever Grand Slam title when he faces Roger Federer in the 2012 Wimbledon Final. By that I presume he means he must play the perfect game of tennis and not impersonate 80s/90s wrestling icon Curt Henning.

Bookmakers make Roger Federer the 8/15 (general) favourite to claim the victory that will return him to the World Number One slot and most crucially land him his seventh Wimbledon crown (tying the number won by Pete Sampras). Andy Murray is 9/5 (sportingbet) to beat Roger and claim his first Grand Slam title at his fourth time of asking.

Federer has been here, seen it, done it and worn the t-shirt (although in his case probably a smart polo shirt), the Swiss ace has won the title six times and is a multi grand-slam champion. He is not expected to feel the nerves or the weight of expectation of a home crowd that might plague Murray. The crowd will be desperate to see Murray emulate the achievements of Fred Perry who won the title here in 1935 and 1936. Can Murray hand the mental pressure? that is the key, because tennis wise Murray has the game to worry Federer.

This is not the first time these two have met in a Grand Slam Final, they met in the 2008 US Open final and the 2010 Australian Open, both times Federer coming out on top in straight sets and you can get 5/2 (Skybet/Totesport/betfred) that he wins this one in straight sets. In terms of previous meetings though Murray actually leads the head to head record 8-7 and Rafa Nadal is the only other active player to have a positive head to head record against Federer. These two players have met twice before on English soil (both at the 02 Arena) and Federer has won them both, but the pair have never met on grass or indeed at Wimbledon.

The last four meetings between the pair have ended in straight sets (but these have been best of three rather than best of five matches) however if you expect a quick game tomorrow you can get 7/4 (Skybet) the game is over in three sets, for those thinking the game will go the distance (five) you can get 11/4 (Skybet), or the middle ground of four sets is 13/8 (Coral).

Those who wish to specify who they think will in a certain amount of sets can gain a slightly bigger price. Federer to win 3-1 is actually priced at 3/1 (BetVictor). Federer to win the match in a five set epic is 6/1 (sportingbet). Murray to win in five sets is priced at 7/1 (Sportingbet), Murray in four is 11/2 (general) and a Murray whitewash is 9/1 (Skybet/Totesport/betfred).

Murray will need to get off to a flier if he is to stand a chance and the Scot could be some value in the first set market. Federer has lost the first set in three of his last four grand slam final appearances and Murray will likely be hyped to start strong, the 6/4 (Stan James) looks value.

Bookmakers have priced over 80 markets on this special occasion and one that stands out is the ’most aces in match’ market. Andy Murray is 5/6 (general) while Roger Federer is evens (Coral). The Brit has produced far more aces throughout the tournament (74-59) and looks the choice here.

It promises to be a dramatic final with history to be made one way or the other, hopefully from your point of view it will be a ’perfect’ betting one.
