Scotland attempt to keep their Euro 2016 dream alive.

A chance to gain ground

With Group D front runners Poland squaring up to Germany on Friday, Gordon Strachan knows that his Scotland team could have a great chance of gaining valuable ground in the race for Euro qualification, should they earn all three points in Georgia.

When these two sides met last October, it took an own goal from Georgian defender Akaki Khubutia to separate the sides. That was Scotland’s second win in three previous meetings between the teams, with Georgia winning the other.

A losing start

Since replacing Temuri Ketsbaia in December, new Georgia boss Kakhaber Tskhadadze has yet to record a win in his two qualifying games in charge. His team has also failed to score a goal in either of those defeats. The most recent loss to Germany took their streak of winless home games to a total a six.

This will give the Tartan Army hope as they make the long journey across Europe for what could be the defining game of their campaign. An away win could actually lift the Scots into second place in the group if Poland can beat Germany in Frankfurt.

Team news

Gordon Strachan has recruited Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong into his squad for the qualifying games against Georgia and Germany. The 23-year-old will be the only uncapped player in the selection.

Armstrong’s in-form teammate Leigh Griffiths has kept his place in the squad but midfielders Charlie Adam and Barry Bannan will both miss out

Betting tips

Scotland may not have been a reliable bet for punters in the past but their Euro 2016 qualification exploits have surprised many. With just one defeat in their campaign so far, you have to fancy their chances against a team with such an appalling home record.

Only the presence of FIFA new boys Gibraltar has prevented Georgia from sinking to the bottom of Group D and there has been nothing to suggest that they are capable of beating any of the other teams in the group.

The first game between the two teams may have been a nervy encounter but while Scotland have progressed since then, Georgia have shown little or no sign of improvement.

Scotland can be backed at evens with bet365 while striker Leigh Griffiths is 23/10 to score anytime with Betvictor.
