Jamaica`s fast women to upset America in 4x100m relay

The United States of America is a false favourite for the London 2012 Olympic Games women`s 4x100 metres relay, with Jamaica`s quartet faster than the American four on paper.

Bookmakers are finding it hard to split the United States of America and Jamaica but split them they have, with the Americans at odds of around 11-10 and the Jamaicans at around 6-5 for the women`s sprint relay gold medal.

On 2012 times for the women`s 100m, Jamaica deserves to be the favourite and, taking into account the possibility of a catastrophic baton change, its true odds are about evens so, therefore, the 6-5 price constitutes a touch of value.

According to the latest world rankings, Jamaica`s top four women`s 100m runners this year are Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (10.70 seconds), Veronica Campbell-Brown (10.81s), Kerron Stewart (10.94s) and Sherone Simpson (11.01s). Add up the Jamaican quartet`s test times and the sum totals 43.46s.

The United States of America`s fastest female sprinters are Carmelita Jeter (10.78s), Tianna Madison (10.85s), Allyson Felix (10.89s) and Kimberlyn Duncan (10.96s), who combine for an aggregate of 43.48s so it is going to be close.

Not only is Jamaica two hundredths of a second faster than the United States of America on paper but also it has the advantage of London 2012 Olympic Games women`s 100m gold medallist Fraser-Pryce anchoring its squad. Surely having the fastest woman in the world in your team is a big plus.

The London 2012 Olympic Games men`s 4x400 metres relay is set to get under way as well, with the United States of America hit by the withdrawal of LaShawn Merritt.

Bookmakers have eased out the Americans to around 8-13 and, at that price, they are a worth a bet. On 2012 times for the men`s 400m, the United States of America`s top four runners excluding Merritt are Tony McQuay (44.49s), Michael Berry (44.75s), Bryshon Nellum (44.80s) and Joshua Mance (44.83s), which works out at a composite time of two minutes 58.87s.

On paper, the Bahamas is the closest to the United States of America but the Americans have a half-a-second advantage over their Caribbean rivals and that is quite a big gap.

The penultimate London 2012 Olympic Games swimming event is the women`s 10 kilometres marathon in Hyde Park. Bookmakers have installed Keri-Anne Payne as the favourite at around 2-1, probably expecting her British nationality to cause punters to snap up what appear to be very short odds.

Martina Grimaldi is the London 2012 Olympic Games women`s 10km marathon value at around 9-2. The Italian`s form is every bit as impressive as that of her British rival. Both of the women deserve to trade at 3-1 or thereabouts so swerve the home hope and bet on the second favourite.

The London 2012 Olympic Games women`s football tournament concludes with the bronze medal match between Canada and France in Coventry and the gold medal game between the United States of America and Japan at Wembley Stadium.

The advice before the London 2012 Olympic Games women`s football tournament kicked off was to back FIFA Women`s World Cup Germany 2011 champion Japan at around 5-1 so, if you are on the Nadeshiko at those odds, you can either lay off on the Americans at 1-2 or stick with your original bet.

Japan defeated the United States of America on penalties to win FIFA Women`s World Cup Germany 2011 and the countries have met three times since that tournament - once in Japan, once in Portugal and once in Sweden - with each nation winning one match and the other clash ending in a draw.
