BREWERS can be the toast of value seekers in League Two

League Two

A Wembley heartbreak can be the making or the breaking of a team and it is hoped that Burton can use their loss to Fleetwood to push on to bigger and better things, which include the League Two title. The Brewers have kept their key players from last season while adding to the mix with a number of players including Shane Cansdell-Sherriff and John Mousinho. Gary Rowett knows this league well as a player and as a manager and if Albion can find a few more goals this season then they are the team to beat. bet365 have them 12/1 for the title and 3/1 to be promoted. This looks better than taking the each-way odds as this only pays out the first three places while to be promoted allows for that fourth available place.

It is Bury and Portsmouth who are at the head of the market with both sides available at 15/2. The Shakers have been well supported in the market after an impressive transfer window that includes bringing in prolific striker Ryan Lowe. Bury should improve from their 12th last season though the value in this price seems to have long since gone. Portsmouth under Andy Awford are also 15/2 and were the early season favourites before the rush on Bury. A club that size should not be in this division too much longer if they get the manager and ownership issues right. The latter seems to have been corrected and the early signs are hopeful that Andy Awford is the right guy charge in the dugout. The signing of Craig Westcarr is an excellent move and he should fire in the goals and Pompey will go close once more. That being said they were favourites last year and I think the price is too short.

Shrewsbury are the 8/1 third favourites with bet365 and you can see why as they have a manager who knows the division well in Micky Mellon and have made some good signings. I think this is a side that will go close though over a dozen new signings might take time to gel and this is a price that could get bigger in the early stages of the season. Luton at 9/1 are the fourth favourites as they look to follow on from their Conference Premier title last season and claim back-to-back promotions. The Hatters though have lost 30-goal striker Andre Gray and they look much too short to make the automatic jump up.

York will likely go close after an impressive second half of the season that saw them push into the play-offs. Nigel Worthington must find a way to replace loan keeper Nick Pope and hope that Jake Hyde gets the goals they struggled with last season.

A trio of teams are on 16/1, Carlisle, Northampton and Plymouth and while all three should be in the top half I think much better betting value is available elsewhere. The second selection is Southend at 18/1 who also made the play-offs last season. Phil Brown built the best defence in the league and he will hope some additions up front will push them over the finishing line. Myles Weston and David Worrall should bring in some needed creativity while Barry Corr should bang in the goals.

The third and final team I like are Newport who were flying high until a terrible run of luck with cancellations. The Welsh side were forced to play nine games in March which was too much for their squad and they ended up 14th. Justin Edinburgh is a promising manager and has done well to keep his team together and the fixture list should be kinder this time out.
