RELEGATION

With four teams dropping through the League One trapdoor I think some value can be found in the relegation markets with bet365. Crawley at 3/1 appeal after ending the season with a run of just three victories from their last 14 games. John Gregory was a surprising choice as manager when he took over and I am unimpressed by the transfer dealings that the club has made this summer. Town were awful away from home last season failing to win against any of the bottom ten sides on their travels.

Walsall at 9/2 also appeal to me for the drop as the Saddlers had a poor end to the season winning just two of their last 18 games and none of their last six. This is another side who have not impressed with their work in the summer in terms of transfers in and with all four promoted sides from League Two capable of staying up Walsall could be goners.

TOPSCORER

The top two from last season in this market are back once more and it is the runner-up from last season, Britt Assombalonga, who is the 5/1 favourite with bet365 ahead of 9/1 chance Sam Baldock. Both players will again be amongst the goals though I do worry that they might not even be in the division at the end of August never mind the end of the season. If both players are still here September 1st then I would advise you to think about getting involved in them, but in the mind team here is a few players at bigger prices. Sam Winnall at 25/1 is the first player I like the look of after his 23 goals for Scunthorpe in League Two last season. Winnall will line up for a Barnsley side with hopes of being in the promotion mix and the 23-year-old looks excellent each-way value.

Another who is great each-way value is Tom Pope who is a 50/1 shot with bet365. The Port Vale frontman grabbed 16 in all competitions last season and seemed to be settling in after a struggle earlier in the season. I think with a full season behind him at this level he is one to watch for following his 33 goals the season before in League Two. One player I like at big odds is James Hanson who is 80/1 each-way with bet365. The Bradford frontman grabbed 12 last season and that was when sharing the line with Nahki Wells who has since moved to Huddersfield. Hanson will now lead the line for the Bantams and with fitness concerns that plauged him at the end of last season behind him looks value.

SEASON MATCHBETS AND GROUP BETTING

Port Vale at 6/1 to finish as top Midlands side with BET365 looks a great value bet. Coventry are the 2/1 favourites for this market despite the fact they finished below Vale last season. Okay this was a result of a ten point penalty but if you add these ten points to the Sky Blues then both teams still have 61 with Coventry shading it on goal difference. If you consider that Coventry have also lost main scorer Callum Wilson then there is no reason why the gap in this market should be so big. This is of course not a two horse race, but newly promoted Chesterfield are working to a budget, Walsall had a terrible end to last season with just two wins in their last 18, Crewe are relegation favourites and Notts Co have to make up 11 points.

RECOMMENDATIONS: Crawley to be relegated, 3/1, BET365
Walsall to be relegated, 9/2, BET365

Tom Pope top scorer, ew, 50/1, BET365
James Hanson top scorer, ew, 80/1, BET365
Port Vale to be top Midlands side, 6/1, BET365
