Premier League preview and odds: Manchester United vs Manchester City

September 10, 2016 12:30pm - Old Trafford

Premier League

Old foes will be reunited on Saturday when new Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho and Manchester City counterpart Pep Guardiola lead their undefeated teams onto to the field for this fascinating derby clash.

Manchester derby kicks off weekend action

This weekend`s Manchester derby might just be the most anticipated of all time as the two powerhouses go head-to-head under the guidance of perhaps the two most high profile coaches in the history of the game.

Never before has the rivalry between these two teams been matched by the antipathy between the head coaches. As a result, this game will attract even more attention than usual as the football world looks on, eager to see who will come out on top.

Despite having worked together at Barcelona, there is no love lost between Mourinho and Guardiola. Since both men entered the world of coaching, they have developed a mutual hostility that is unlikely to subside while they occupy the hotseats on the red and blue sides of Manchester respectively.

Since taking their new roles back in the summer, both coaches have performed in line with expectations, having remained unbeaten in their first three games of the season. This weekend will be a chance for either side to take the early initiative in the Premier League title race.

Of the two teams, Manchester City have perhaps been the most impressive in their opening fixtures. A close 2-1 opening day win over Sunderland was followed up by comfortable wins away at Stoke (1-4) and at home to West Ham (3-1).

Meanwhile, Manchester United started off well enough with wins against Bournemouth and Southampton but they did not look quite so convincing in their last outing away to Hull City. In fact, it took a last gasp goal from Marcus Rashford to secure all three points for the Red Devils.

Team news

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has a thigh problem and will miss out for the home side.

Meanwhile, Sergio Aguero is serving a three-match suspension and will also miss out.

Betting odds and tips

City have yet to keep a clean sheet this season or in any of their last six Premier League games. They come into this game on the back of five-straight competitive wins under new boss Pep Guardiola.

United have also won all four of their competitive matches under Mourinho and have kept clean sheets in their last two Premier League games. However, they will do well to record another shut-out this weekend, even with Aguero out of action.

The presence of Guardiola on the bench should ensure that this game opens up more than it did when the sides met last year. As a result, both teams should get chances to score and with such quality at their disposal, at least one goal apiece can be expected.

You can back Both Teams to Score at 4/5
