Premier League preview and odds: West Ham United vs Watford

September 10 , 2016 15:00pm - London Stadium

Premier League

West Ham United will look to record their second-straight win in their new stadium this weekend when they take on a Watford side struggling to make headway at the start of their second season back in the top flight.

West Ham hoping to establish home fortress

Having completed the move into their new stadium in Stratford, West Ham United can now concentrate on building on the achievements of last year`s Premier League campaign when they secured an impressive seventh-place finish and qualified for the Europa League.

However, the Hammers have not had the best start to the campaign, having lost to Chelsea (1-2) and Manchester City (1-3) either side a maiden home win in their new home against AFC Bournemouth (1-0).

Having already played two of the title favourites away from home, their current haul of three points is perhaps what they might have expected at this stage, so it is too early to talk of a drop in form from last season. In fact, the Irons will fancy their chances of picking up plenty of points from their next eight games in which they play a group of mid-table and relegation candidates.

Meanwhile, Watford have also had a stumbling start to their campaign under the guidance of new boss Walter Mazzarri. Any optimism that followed the opening day draw away to Southampton (1-1) was negated by back-to-back defeats to Chelsea (1-2) and Arsenal (1-3), but much like West Ham, they may not have expected much more from that tricky set of fixtures.

Team news

West Ham United will be without the injured quartet of Andy Carroll, Andre Ayew, Aaron Cresswell and Diafra Sakho.

Meanwhile, Watford should have a full strength squad to choose from.

Betting odds and tips

This game will be a good test for two teams who have had difficult starts to the season. A full strength West Ham would be favourites for this one but they are still suffering with some injury issues and that could bring the draw into play.
