Bnp Paribas Masters

Other than the injured Rafa Nadal all the big names are out in force next week as the BNP Paribas Masters takes place from Paris. Novak Djokovic is the 13/8 (You Win) favourite for the trophy. The last we saw the Serbian in action was in Shanghai where he saw off Tomas Berdych in the semi-finals before defeating Andy Murray in a great three set match to claim the title. The Serbian is a deserved favourite here especially in an event he was won previously (2009) though at 13/8 at the end of a hard season it might pay to look around for some bigger value.

Andy Murray is the 11/4 second favourite with You Win (note You Win do not pay out EW). The Scot has never won this event though it is an event that has been kind to British players in the past with Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski both former winners. If the seedings work out Murray will have a third round encounter with Marin Cilic before a possible quarter-final with Janko Tipsarevic. These two both look winnable while a semi-final with Federer or Berdych would follow. The Scot has to be respected and will certainly go close. The third favourite is the number one seed Roger Federer with the Swiss ace likely to come up against his US Open conqueror Tomas Berdych in the last eight before a possible meeting with Murray in the semis. I think these two difficult back-to-back games will be too much for him though if you disagree and think he can repeat his feat of 2011 when winning this event then you can get him at 4/1 (general).

I like the each-way chances of Jo Wilfried Tsonga at 20/1 (BetVictor) who are paying ½ the odds EW. The Frenchman has been ending the season well making the finals of three of his last four events he has played. His main problem recently has been seeing off Tomas Berdych though those two are unlikely to meet until the final. The Frenchman has lucked out in the absence of Nadal as he is in the side of David Ferrer who is by far the weakest of the four seeds. If he can see him off in the last eight he has a game against Djokovic or Del Potro both of whom could tire each other out in a long three setter. This event is also a place that the Frenchman enjoys as he was a finalist in 2011. The other pick is for another in-form Tomas Berdych who is 16/1 (general). The Czech player won in Stockholm last time out and is ending the season well, he should be ok reaching the last eight where he will face Roger Federer who he beat at the US Open and leads in recent head-to-head meetings 4-3. Berdych also has a 4-2 recent head-to-head record with his potential semi-final opponent Andy Murray.

A number of first-round matches have been scheduled for Monday with the bigger names not scheduled to enter the competition until round two. Of the opening round matches I think the best value bet lies in taking Viktor Troicki to see off Julien Benneteau. It is 31/16 (pinnacle) a Troicki victory which looks generous on a player who took Djokovic to three sets here in the third round last year. The Frenchman has not been on court since retiring injured in a match in Beijing at the start of the month. Take the value here on Troicki.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Tomas Berdych Each Way, 16/1 (1/2,2-general)
SILVER: Jo Wilfried Tsonga Each-Way, 20/1 (1/2, 2-BetVictor)
BRONZE: Viktor Troicki to beat Julien Benneteau, 31/16 (pinnacle)
