The live game in the Championship this weekend sees Birmingham travel to Derby in another of the many Midlands derbies that take place in the second flight in England.

Bookmakers make Derby the 5/4 (general) favourites for this game against a Birmingham side with just two wins in their last nine games. Derby have suffered back to back defeats though both these came on the road and at home they have seen off Blackpool and Barnsley in their last two games, a victory over Birmingham will make it three in a row. Those who think Birmingham can get something from the game can get them at 29/12 (pinnacle) for the victory or 13/5 (pinnacle) the draw. The first goalscorer market is headed by Theo Robinson at 11/2 (general). This looks a little short on a player who didn’t even start last weekend at Palace. Marlon King is a 6/1 (general) chance and he has a good record away from home netting six in his eight league appearances this season.

If you must have a bet on this tricky looking live game have small stakes on both teams to score which would have paid in seven of the last eight meetings between these sides and Birmingham have managed to score in seven of their last eight away games.

The pick of the games in the Championship could be the one that pitches league leaders Crystal Palace against Leeds. Off the pitch might be just as interesting as on it as it has two of the more fiery managers in the league in Neil Warnock and Ian Holloway. Palace are the favourites here as they are the form team with five straight wins and bookmakers make them 6/4 (Coral) for the victory. Leeds meanwhile have lost their last three games and are 2/1 (william hill) while the draw is 44/17 (Pinnacle).

At the bottom end of the table Ipswich take on Peterborough in a game between the side in 22nd and the side in 24th. I think home advantage should see Ipswich home here. Ipswich will look to make Portman Road a fortress between now and the end of the season as they look to avoid the drop and I think they can get all three points. The evens (general) on offer seems decent as they did win their last home game against Burnley while Peterborough have lost their last four games and if anything look even worse than Ipswich.

Chris Wood looks a good bet in the goalscorer markets for Millwall against Blackburn. The New Zealand striker has netted seven in his last seven in all competitions and is a generous 12/5 (Skybet) in the anytime scorer market. Blackburn have not kept a clean sheet in their last four game and Millwall have been firing them in.

One last bet I like the look of is Burnley to get something out of the game with Hull. True the Clarets did let us down last week at Charlton however fates conspired against them as they were down to men after just 15 minutes against Burnley last weekend. Sean Dyche has his team playing well and with Charlie Austin as a goal threat they simply have to be taken at 11/4 (Coral) in the draw no bet market. No disrespect to Hull who are a solid Championship side however the price is much too short bearing in mind that both Blackpool and Peterborough have won at the KC this season.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Ipswich to beat Peterborough, evens (general)
SILVER: Burnley to beat Hull in draw no bet market, 11/4 (Coral)
BRONZE: Chris Wood to score v Blackburn, 12/5 (Skybet) in the anytime market.
