The Beatles once sang that ‘Money can’t buy you love’ though you would have thought it would have been able to buy Man City a place in the last 16 of the Champions League. City go into the game with Ajax on Tuesday night knowing that they must win this game. Bookmakers seem to think that they wil get it and make them 9/20 (BetVictor/pinnacle/32 Red) to do so. I could not be getting involved in City at this point they were outplayed by Ajax on matchday three and struggled to break down West Ham at the weekend in the Premier League. Those who think the Dutch side can get something out of this game can get 4/1 the draw (Totesport/betfred) or 7/1 (general) an away win. The value in this game might be to take Siem De Jong to get among the goals. De Jong has netted in two of the last three games including when these sides last met. The player is as short as 8/1 in some places yet as big as 18/1 with BWin to grab the opening goal and 5/1 (BWin) to score anytime.

The other game in the group sees Real Madrid up against Borussia Dortmund. It is 1/2(Blue Sq/888 Sport) that the Spanish side win while the draw is 19/5 (Stan James/pinnacle) and the Dortmund win 7/1 (william hill). I’m not keen to oppose Real at home though the prices does nothing for me. Those looking for a bet on the game take the 4/6 (boylesports) on both teams to score which would have paid in each of the last five Madrid Champions League home games and in each of the last three Dortmund Champions League away games.

In Group B Arsenal travel to Germany seeking revenge on Schalke for their gameweek three defeat. Arsenal though have won just three of their last 13 Champions League away games and it is 10/11 (paddy Power) that Schalke would win, the draw is a best priced 37/13 (pinnacle) while the Arsenal win is a 7/2 (Stan James/Coral/Pinnacle) shot. I like the look of Lewis Holtby to get among the goals here. Holtby has been playing just off Huntelaar in recent weeks for Schalke and is 16/1 (BetVictor/Coral) to grab the opener and 6/1 (Coral) to score at anytime.

In the other game in the group Olympiakos are 66/67 (pinnacle) to see off a Montpellier that side that they beat in gameweek three and have won just one of their last 11 matches in European competitions.

Over in Group A it is Porto who are setting the pace with three wins from their opening three games. Victory over Dynamo Kiev should see the Portuguese side through to the last 16 and it is 29/16 (Pinnacle) a Porto win, the draw is 32/13 (Pinnacle) while Kiev are 17/10 (ladbrokes/william hill). These two sides produced five goals last time and the over 2.5 goals is recommended again at 17/16 (188 Bet). It is as short as 1/6 (general) that PSG win though those who fancy the French side can enhance this to 4/6 (boylesports) by taking the PSG to win, Ibrahimovic to score double.

Malaga are in pole position in Group C with three wins from three games and they are 37/13 (Pinnacle) to see off Milan while the draw is 31/12 (Pinnacle) and the Milan win is 23/20 (general). Tom De Sutter has scored five in his last two Anderlecht games yet it is 11/1 (BWin) he grabs the opener or 15/4 anytime (BWin). He has bagged five in his last two games and Zenit have conceded at least two goals in five of their last six Champions League away games.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Olympiakos to beat Montpellier, 66/67 (Pinnacle)
SILVER: Tom De Sutter to score v Zenit, First Goal 11/1 (Bwin), anytime 15/4 (BWin)
BRONZE: Lewis Holtby to score v Arsenal, First 16/1 (BetVictor/Coral), anytime 6/1 (Coral)
