I make that a whole week that has gone by without a managerial change in the Championship, have the chairman gone soft? I’m sure the boardrooms will get busy soon in the meantime we shall just concentrate this preview on actual football.

With no Friday game and just one Sunday game (more of which in our Sunday Football preview) then we have eleven games taking place this Saturday in the Championship. Let us first start with the live evening game which sees Peterborough at home to Blackburn. Posh enter this game on the back of a three game losing streak and bookmakers make them the outsiders here at 23/10 (general) here. They will be encouraged though by the fact that they have won two of their last three at home. Blackburn are the 13/10 (william hill) favourites as they sit in seventh while Peterbourgh are second bottom. Six of the last eight Blackburn away games have ended drawn and it is 18/7 (pinnacle) that this game ends in a draw. The first goalscorer market is headed by Jordan Rhodes at 9/2 (Bwin) who grabbed two in midweek for Scotland and has three in his last six league games. Those who think that a Peterborough player will get the first goal can get Emile Sinclair at 7/1(general). Danny Murphy is on penalties for Blackburn and as such might be overpriced with ladbrokes at 16/1 to grab the opener or 11/2 (paddy Power/Coral/william hill) to score anytime.

Elsewhere in the Championship the game of the day sees third placed Cardiff play host to second placed Middlesbrough. The Bluebirds did us a treat last week as they saw off in form Hull to continue their perfect home record. It is 6/5 (william hill) a home victory here and I’m tempted to go with the home side again though Boro are much tougher opposition than Hull. Boro are on an amazing run of form going nine games unbeaten in all competitions, winning seven of these. The visitors also have the second best record in the league on their travels. This looks like it could be a cracking game to watch though not one to get involved with from a betting point of view.

The standout bet in the Championship is Crystal Palace to beat Derby at 28/29 (pinnacle). I feel someone at the company may have missed the memo as Palace are top of the league and have won the last four games. This is close to evens on a team on form against a Derby side with just one win in their last four away games (and that came against Ipswich). Nigel Clough is doing well to keep Derby clear of the relegation slots however they do not have the firepower to deal with a Palace side on full song.

One other bet I like in this division is in the game between Burnley and Charlton where I am taking the home team to get all three points at 23/20 (William Hill). The Clarets lost last weekend though were a little unlucky to bump into an Ipswich side under new boss Mick McCarthy. It is far better to take note of the home games under Sean Dyche which Burnley have won both seeing off Wolves and Leeds without conceding a goal (it is now three home games without conceding for the Clarets). Charlton are on a decent run and did the business for us at Bristol City last weekend though I think this will be a much trickier task. If Burnley do score Charlie Austin tends to be among the goals so some might want to play the 15/8 (paddy Power) on a Clarets win and Austin to score anytime.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Crystal Palace to beat Derby, 28/29 (Pinnacle)
SILVER: Burnley to beat Charlton, 23/20 (William Hill)
BRONZE: Burnley to win and Austin to score anytime, 15/8 (paddy power)
