Six of the top eight do battle in League One this weekend. Leaders Tranmere are away to fifth placed Stevenage. The Merseysiders are on something of a little slump of late picking up just one point from their last two games both of which were at home. It is 29/16 (pinnacle) a victory for Tranmere while a Stevenage win is 17/10 (william hill). The draw is a best priced 52/21 (pinnacle). This looks a tricky one to call with Stevenage also a little out of sorts picking up just one point from their last three games including two big 4-1 defeats. This looks one to swerve from a betting point of view.

Brentford are the form team in League One with just one defeat in their last 13 games. It is 6/4 (general) a Bees victory though it is not easy as Sheffield United have just one league defeat this season. The draw could be the order of the day at 12/5 (Skybet) while the Blades gaining all three points is 21/10 (BetVictor).

The other all top eight game is the one that pitches sixth placed Swindon at eighth placed Notts County. County are on a little bit of a slow run drawing their last three while Swindon are blowing hot and cold. A home win is priced at 15/8 (BetVictor), a Swindon victory is 13/8 (paddy Power/william hill) while the draw is 37/15 (Pinnacle).

The best bet in League One is Doncaster to beat Scunthorpe which is available for an astonishing 11/10 (william hill/pinnacle). Doncaster sit in fourth placed while Scunthorpe are 23rd. Doncaster had good wins at Portsmouth and Carlisle recently while Scunthorpe last at home to lowly Bury. True Doncaster have done some of their better work this season away from the Keepmoat though I think this is more coincidence than a major issue and they should be backed to showcase their superiority on Saturday. Another bet I like the look of in League One is Bournemouth at 6/5 (BetVictor/Coral) to get all three points at Bury. Despite winning four of their last five I’m not buying this Bury recovery as these wins have come against teams in the bottom half of the table. Bournemouth are unbeaten in their last eight games winning six of these and should have too much class for their opponents.

In League Two Gillingham still have a four point lead at the top although they did suffer a shock home defeat to Exeter last weekend. This weekend sees Gillingham away to Accrington and they are evens (general) for all three points. Accrington though are on a decent run of their own with just one defeat in their last five including a good win at Fleetwood last time out. This looks like one to swerve in the outright markets. I do though like the look of a bet in the first goalscorer markets where James Beattie is 8/1 (paddy Power). Yes that James Beattie, the former England (yes he really does have five caps) striker has dropped off the radar only to resurface at Accrington in League Two and netted in midweek. Beattie has always been a confidence player and at 34 should have enough about him to be a hit at this level. He is also available at 13/5 (paddy power) in the anytime scorer market.

Cheltenham have just started to stutter a little in League Two as the normal rock solid defence has shipped in eight goals in two games and they might be worth taking on with Barnet at 10/3 (Coral) in the draw no bet market. Barnet have lost just one of their last seven league games and with Edgar Davids likely to make the return this Saturday following suspension look great value.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Doncaster to beat Scunthorpe, 11/10 (William Hill)
SILVER: Bournemouth to beat Bury, 6/5 (BetVictor/Coral)
BRONZE: Barnet to beat Cheltenham in draw no bet market, 10/3 (Coral)
