Premier League

This has been a good week for Sir Alex Ferguson, his side outclassed Arsenal last weekend to go top of the Premier League, a place in the Champions League last 16 is booked and the man himself is to be rewarded with a statue for his long spell in charge. Though it is unclear whether extra time will be added on if Fergie is unhappy with the result of the project (Boom tish). United feature in the one live game this Saturday as they travel to Aston Villa in what looks a very winnable match. Villa have won just one of 33 Premier League meetings with Man Utd and despite victory over Sunderland last weekend I see little reason to be backing them at 75/13 (pinnacle) nor do I fancy the draw at 32/9 (pinnacle). I’m all about the United win though I would be looking to boost the 4/7 (Coral) with Robin Van Persie (five in his last six) to score anytime and United to win at 11/8 (betfred).

Before this game we have six live 3.00 games with Arsenal play hosting to Fulham in one of these. History is on the Gunners side as Fulham have not won away at Arsenal in any competition losing 22 and drawing four of 26 visits. It is 53/15 (Pinnacle) a draw for Fulham and 104/17 (Pinnacle) the away win. Those who wish to back the Gunners can get them at 8/15 (32 Red) though that seems a little short on a side who have won just two of their last six games in all competitions. Take the HT draw which is available at 31/20 (BetVictor) as this would have paid in five of the last seven (including the last four) Arsenal home games.

After four draws in a row Everton will be looking to get back on track when they face Sunderland at Goodison Park. Sunderland have netted just once in their last five games and that was an own goal so take the 11/10 (ladbrokes) on an Everton clean sheet.

Reading who have yet to win a game take on a Norwich side looking to register their first away victory of the season and I think the Canaries could be the ones celebrating. You can get Norwich at +0.25 on the Asian Handicap at 39/40 (bet365/188 Bet) which pays out full if Norwich win and half if they draw which looks decent. The Canaries will look at soak up pressure from the home team and hit them on the counter with Holt and Hoolahan.

Bottom of the table Southampton are desperate for points and are 29/20 (BetVictor/pinnacle) to see off Swansea on Saturday. Stan James are offering 11/8 that Swansea score over 1.5 goals and this looks the way to play the game bearing in mind how poor Southampton are in defence and the attacking talent the Welsh side have at their disposal.

QPR are stil chasing that elusive victory and take on a Stoke side they did the double over last season. Despite letting us down last weekend I’m backing QPR to get something out of this game. The London side are 10/13 (188 Bet) on the Asian Handicap receiving +0.75 start. This means a win if QPR win or draw and only a half loss if the margin of victory is one goal. Stoke have won just two of their last 25 by more than one goal.

Both sides won last weekend and both Wigan and West Brom will enter this full of confidence. Wigan tend to conceded more goals at home as they are much more attacking and it looks worth backing the Baggies to score over 1.5 goals at 7/4 (ladbrokes). This would have paid in five of the last six Wigan Premier League home games.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Man Utd to beat Aston Villa and Robin Van Persie to score anytime, 11/8 (betfred)
SILVER: QPR +0.75 on Asian Handicap v Stoke, 10/13 (188 Bet)
BRONZE: West Brom to score over 1.5 goals v Wigan, 7/4 (ladbrokes)
