Jose Mourinho, Kenny Daglish, Steve Clarke has worked with some management greats in the past, oh and Gianfranco Zola. From these men the Scotsman seems to have taken important lessons and has done a great job when asked to step out on his own. The Baggies are dreaming of Europe and the way the North London sides are struggling then fourth is not too wild a dream. This is why 59/29 (pinnacle) a West Brom win away at Sunderland looks great value. Victory over Chelsea last week will mean confidence is on a high as they seek a fourth straight win. Last weekend we point out that Sunderland should not be under-estimated ahead of the game with Fulham as they showed improved signs against Everton. True enough the Black Cats won 3-1. Let us not carried away though Sunderland got a nice break when Fulham had a man sent off. Sunderland are 20/13 (pinnacle) for the victory yet the Black Cats have won just one of their last eight Premier League games at the Stadium of Light. This West Brom side have won four and lost none of the last five meetings between these sides. Take Stan James up on the very generous 6/5 offer of West Brom in the draw no bet market.

Those looking for a first goalscorer bet will see that Steven Fletcher is the 5/1 (general) favourite. The Scot has scored three goals in his two previous league games against the Baggies. Peter Odemwingie also has good record when these sides meet netting four in his last four league appearances against the Black Cats and is 8/1 (Skybet) the opener. I’ve mentioned a few times about the advanced roles James Morison and Zoltan Gera play for West Brom and they always look value at 12/1 Morison (general) and Gera 14/1 (general).

One last thing to note is that West Brom have scored first in eight of their last nine in all competitions and added to this the Baggies have scored three goals in the opening ten minutes of the last three meetings with Sunderland (including 2-0 up in five minutes last season). It is 6/5 (bet365) West Brom score first in this game which looks worth getting involved with.

The second live game in the Premier League sees Aston Villa take on Arsenal. The Gunners are the 8/11 (general) favourites to take all three points. Villa have won none of their last 13 Premier League home games against Arsenal, drawing six of these. This game to end in a draw is 25/8 (Pinnacle) and a Villa win is a best priced 17/4 (boylesports). This looks a tough game to call and I will probably swerve the outright match betting.

Those looking for a goalscorer bet will see the top dominated by Arsenal players with Olivier Giroud at 5/1 (general), Lukas Podolski is 13/2 (BetVictor/Coral), Theo Walcott 7/1 (bet365), Santi Cazorla is 8/1 (general). The Gunners though have not scored first in any of their last six away games so it may to pay side with an Aston Villa player. Christian Benteke is the obvious call at 9/1 (bet365) though I prefer a play of a player at a bigger price, Ashley Westwood at 33/1 (BWin/Coral). This looks a big price on a midfield player who has yet to score, but his time at Crewe showed he had a decent shot and he can also be backed at 12/1 (BWin/Coral) to score at anytime.

I would expect goals to be in order here as the last two Arsenal league games have produced a massive 13 goals while the last two Villa games have produced a total of ten. Bookmakers are wise to this and have made both teams to score 8/13 (general) while over 2.5 goals is a best priced 5/7 (Pinnacle).

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: West Brom to beat Sunderland, draw no bet, 6/5 (Stan James)
SILVER: West Brom to score first v Sunderland, 6/5 (bet365)
BRONZE: Ashley Westwood to score v Arsenal, first 33/1 (BWin/Coral), anytime 12/1 (BWin/Coral).
