Strictly and X Factor Previews

The clocks have gone back, the weather is colder and the nights are made for staying in and watching Saturday night TV. Here is our guide to the latest betting in the X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing.

It is Strictly that is leading the ratings war so let us start our guide with the BBC show. Olympic Gymnast Louis Smith is the favourite at 13/10 (boylesports) and this look tough to argue with. Smith and his partner Flavia Cacace are topping the judges marks and with the dance-off format it would be unlikely that they would be voted off any time soon. In terms of outright winners I find it hard to see past this couple. Others expected to go well are Denise Van Outen and her partner James Jordan and Kimberley Walsh and her partner Pascha Kovalev. Denise is 7/2 (general) while Kimberley is 9/2 (Totesport/betfred). If you were to combine the votes of all the couples form the four dances they have done so far you will see Smith is on 122, Van Outen on 117 and Walsh on 114. Those dancers below this will probably be looking for a place in the final and BWin are offering odds on this. It is 8/5 Lisa Riley, 12/5 Victoria Pendleton, 4/1 Dani Harmer, 13/2 Nicky Byrne, 27/4 Colin Salmon, 10/1 Michael Vaughan, 20/1 Fern Britton and 20/1 Richard Arnold to make the final.

The bet here looks to be taking Denise Van Outen at 7/4 (sportingbet) to finish as the top female. Denise and partner James have a great chemistry both during their dancing and in their VTs. Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh will likely run her close but lacks the fun factor that both viewers and judges love. Richard Arnold is the 5/2 (general) favourite to be the next eliminated from the show with Fern Britton 7/2 (Coral), Colin Salmon 9/2 (bet365/sportingbet/paddy Power) and Michael Vaughan is 15/2 (bet365/sportingbet). I think it could be worth a small interest on Victoria Pendleton at 8/1 (ladbrokes) to end up in the bottom two this week. Pendleton is scheduled to be dancing the Samba and has looked uncomfortable in the dances which have involved her showcasing her sexuality.

Over to X Factor and it is Ella Henderson who is the 5/4 (BWin) favourite. The 16-year-old has stood out from the start with her closest challenge expected to come from Jahmene Douglas (5/2-Blue SQ/888 Sport) and James Arthur (7/2-general). Those looking to vote on the next act to be eliminated will see the market is headed by Christopher Maloney at 7/2 (general). Look to lay him as the Liverpool singer has never featured in the bottom two and could benefit from the passionate local support that has helped fellow scousers Ray Quinn and Marcus Collins. Others who may be in the elimination battle are Kye Sones at 4/1 (general), Rylan Clark 9/2 (betfred), District 13 are 5/1 (general) while Lucy Spraggan is 6/1 (boylesports/BWin/Coral) and Union J 10/1 (Boylesports). One of the special markets sees Gary Barlow as the favourite to lose all his acts first at 8/13 (bet365) yet it is Louis Walsh that appeals to me in this market. I think in Maloney Barlow has an act that could stick around while Walsh always manages to find a way to sabotage his acts. Take the 6/4 (betfred) on the Irishman being the first judge to lose all his acts.
