Roger Federer was in seventh heaven after claiming a record equaling seventh Wimbledon title and bookmakers make him 3/1 (BetVictor/ladbrokes/Coral) second favourite to land the gold medal at the Olympics, can the Swiss ace strike gold?

What makes this Olympics a strong betting event is that a lot of recent course form exists as the event is being held at Wimbledon, though over three sets rather than five. Novak Djokovic is the favourite at 2/1 (boylesports/ladbrokes/Coral) to claim the gold medal. Djokovic claimed a Bronze in 2008 and the proud Serb will be determined to land the gold medal to add to the four grand slam titles he has won over the last 18 months.

The defending Olympic champion is Rafa Nadal who was a shock early casualty at Wimbledon and is 4/1 (general) to bounce back here. The Spaniard might have a point to prove after defeat at Wimbledon and might be fresher then some of his rivals. Beaten Wimbledon finalist Andy Murray will also be keen to do well and 11/2 (general) looks generous on a player who knows the venue. The Brit will not have the same weight of expectation on him that, some think, hounds him at Grand Slams.

Those looking for a little bit of each-way value should consider the 100/1 (paddy Power) on David Ferrer. The Spaniard made the quarter-finals and pushed Murray hard before exiting. Ferrer is available at 25/1 in some places and he has been in great form this year.

In the Women’s section Serena Williams is 7/4 (general) favourite which is understandable after a dominant Wimbledon, while Maria Sharapova is 4/1 (BetVictor/paddy Power) to bounce back from her Wimbledon disappointment. Russia were dominant in 2008 claming all three medals and Sharapova will hope this is a good sign for 2012. Those looking for value could do worse than consider Tamira Paszek who at 150/1 (william hill) looks at home on grass, winning at Eastbourne and reaching the last eight at Wimbledon.

Going back to Wimbledon and if you think Andy Murray can go one better than his final defeat and lift the Wimbledon trophy before 2018 you should consider the 13/8 on offer from Skybet (it is 4/9 that he does not win Wimbledon before 2018). Skybet also extend the market out to other majors and make it 11/8 that Murray does not win a grand slam before 2018 and 8/15 that he does. Coral meanwhile do not put a time frame on their market and they go 4/6 Murray to win a grand slam in his career, 11/10 that he never does.

The US Open is the next major title and bookmakers make defending champion Novak Djokovic their 2/1 (ladbrokes) champion, with 2010 champion and 2011 runner-up Rafa Nadal at 100/30 (BetVictor). Wimbledon Champion Roger Federer is 9/2 (general), while Murray, whose game might be more suited to this venue than in other grand slams, is 6/1 (Bwin). In the women’s section of the draw three times US Open champion and 2011 finalist Serena Williams is 5/2 (general) favourite, with Victoria Azarenka next at 5/1 (Bwin/Bodog) and Maria Sharapova out to 6/1 (william hill). Sam Stosur is the defending champion and she is 33/1 (BetVictor) to land the trophy, while Caroline Wozniacki may have dropped off the radar a little, but at 66/1 (BetVictor) there may be some value on a player who has reached the semi-finals here in the last two years.

Wimbledon might be gone, but there still is a whole load of tennis still to be played this year.
