As I sat down to write the preview for gameweek 13 a thought occured to me in all the years of writing about the NFL I have no idea what a Seahawk is. Thanks to the wonders of the internet I can now tell you that a Seahawk is another name for the Osprey which is an impressive long winged bird of prey. The NFL team from Seattle are not so impressive though I do like the gameplay of young quarterback Russell Wilson.

The Seahawks are at the Bears this weekend in the first live NFL game of the day. Chicago are the 5/9 (william hill) favourites while Seattle are 12/7 (pinnacle). The Bears are now 8-3 after bouncing back from losses to the Texans and the 49ers with a victory over the Vikings last time out. Jay Cutler returned from concussion to man the quarterback position and the Bears offence looked clicked on again. The Seahawks suffered a disappointing loss at Miami last week as they continue to be undone by their road form which is 1-5 on the season.

The bet here is Michael Bush in the anytime touchdown scorer market at 7/5 (ladbrokes). Bush grabbed two in the last game and although Matt Forte will return as first choice receiver Cutler will know that Bush can now be relied upon. If the Seahawks defence (which is usually very strong) put their main cover on Forte look for Bush to provide another outlet.

The Steelers are at the Ravens in the second live game in a crucial AFC North battle. Baltimore have one hand on the divisional title and know that victory over Pittsburgh should see them all but mathmatically confirmed as champions. Fate has fallen well for the Ravens with their opponents likely coming in with their third choice quarterback Charlie Batch. Batch faces a very tough defence that is allowing just 14.4 points (on average) in their last four outings and he had three interceptions last week against the Browns. Wait until the team news is in but if Batch is the confirmed starter then move quick and play on the under passing yards at 190.5 at 10/11 with ladbrokes while the Steelers under 13.5 points is 10/11 with Stan James.

The third and final game Sunday is perhaps not as important as people would have expected it to be at the start of the season. No team is playing worse than Philadelphia at the moment and coach Andy Reid must be on borrowed time. The 5-6 Cowboys are the obvious favourites though at 1/5 (Coral/william hill) are much too short to be getting involved with. Take the Cowboys instead to score over 26.5 points at 10/11 with Skybet. The Eagles have conceded over this margin in each of their last five games including last time they faced Dallas.

The Monday night games sees the RG III show continue as he takes on the defending champions the New York Giants. Washington are at home and are 5/4 (general) for victory while the Giants are 8/11 (pinnacle). As much as I am a fan of Griffin I am a bigger fan of the Giants and I can’t see past them here. BetVictor and Stan James have set the line at 3.00 and at evens I think New York must be worth taking to cover it. The Redskins have won the last two though the Eagles and Cowboys are not in the same class as the Giants and if they play like they did in dismantling Green Bay last week then they look good things to cover.

In the non-live games the standout bet to me is Jacksonville to get something out of the game at Buffalo. The Jaguars are starting to pick up recently and after an overtime loss to the Texans in their penultimate game they saw off Tennessee last time out. Buffalo have lost four of their last five and the 25/11 (Pinnacle) on a Titans win looks very tempting.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Tennessee to beat Buffalo at 25/11 (Pinnacle)
SILVER: NY Giants to cover -3.00 against Washington, Evens (BetVictor/Stan James)
BRONZE: Matt Forte anytime scorer for Bears v Seahawks, 7/5 (ladbrokes)
