Premier League Preview 3rd Dec

Fourteenth take on fifteenth in the Premier League Monday night as Newcastle are at home to Wigan. Both side are in need of the three points though bookmakers make Newcastle favourites to get them.

It is 13/12 (pinnacle) that the Magpies get all three points as they seek their first win in five Premier League games and look to put a run of four defeats in a row behind them. I would lean to Newcastle getting all three points though I can not back them with any confidence after such a terrible run of form recently. Wigan are a funny side to predict capable of playing some wonderful Football however at times are undone by a very brittle backline. If you think Wigan can get something out of this game then you can get them at 3/1 (general) while the draw is a best priced 88/35 (pinnacle).

Those looking for a first goalscorer bet will see that the market is headed by Dembe Ba at 9/2 (bet365/BWin) ahead of Papiss Cisse at 11/2 (Skybet) and Shola Ameobi at 7/1 (Skybet/188 Bet/william hill). Those looking to side with a Wigan player can get Arouna Kone at 8/1 BWin), Franco Di Santo at 10/1 (BWin) and Jordi Gomez at 13/1 (BWin). I would recommend a little play on Fabricio Coloccini at 33/1 (general) to score first or 13/1 (BWin) to score anytime. Wigan have conceded seven goals in the league this season from headers (a Premier League joint worst) and the Argentinian can be a danger at set pieces.

Bookmakers are split on whether this game will feature goals or not and you can get 15/16 (Pinnacle) under 2.5 goals or 66/67 (32 Red) on the over 2.5 goals. In the both teams to score market it is 8/11 (general) that both teams score while BetVictor are offering 23/20 that both teams do not score.

Another bet I like the look of is the 2/1 (Totesport/betfred) on the Half Time score being 0-0 which would have paid in each of the last eight Wigan away Premier League games. The Magpies meanwhile have scored a first half goal in just two of their last eight Premier League home games.

Elsewhere that evening Cheltenham take on Hereford in the FA Cup with the prize for the victors a third round home tie with Premier League side Everton. Cheltenham are the 4/6 (BetVictor/Coral/william hill) favourites to get all three points as they sit third in League Two while their opponents Hereford are 13th in the Conference Premier. The Robins have won each of their last four home games to nil and can be backed at 9/4 (Blue Sq/888 Sport) to win this game to nil. Another price worth noting in this game is defender Keith Lowe at 25/1 (general) to grab the first goal which looks decent value as he has grabbed three in his last seven games and is a menace at set pieces. Lowe is also a very generous 10/1(paddy Power) in the anytime scorer market.

Over in Spain one match is scheduled to take place as Sevilla play host to Real Valladolid. The home side are the 4/5 (ladbrokes/Coral) favourites while the draw is a best priced 43/15 (Pinnacle) and the away win is 29/7 (Pinnacle). The home side have lost just one of their last eight home games (and that loss came to Barcelona). Valladolid meanwhile have won just one of their last six away games and bookmakers seemed to have priced this game just right.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Newcastle v Wigan to be 0-0 at HT, 2/1 (Totesport/betfred)
SILVER: Keith Lowe to score v Hereford, first 25/1 (general), anytime 10/1 (paddy Power)
BRONZE: Fabricio Coloccini to score v Wigan, first 33/1 (general), anytime 13/1 (BWin)
