If the FA Cup is all about romance then the League Cup must be the mistress, excitement, shocks and unpredictability yet at the end of the day you would never leave your wife for her. I am not sure you would meet a fan who would swap an FA Cup win for a League Cup.

Non league Luton Town and Macclesfield will hope they can produce epic shocks of their own as they take on a couple of out of sorts Premier League sides. The task for the Hatters looks a little trickier as they have do it away from home when they take on Norwich. The Canaries are 7/19 (pinnacle) which is not a price to be getting involved with despite the fact that you would think Norwich should come through in a professional manner. Luton at 10/1 (Blue Sq/888 Sport) or the draw at 81/19 (pinnacle) is giving nothing away either. The bet might be in backing Alex Lawless to score. The Luton midfielder has grabbed a goal in each of the last two FA Cup games and though he does not get many in the league maybe he is a man for the big occassion. A problem with Norwich is they are often slow to get out to players in midfield and give them space to have a shot. Lawless is 33/1 (bet365) to grab the opener and 11/1 (bet365) to score anytime and this looks worth small stakes.

Macclesfield at home will fancy their chances even more than the Hatters as they welcome out of form Wigan to their ground. Wigan enter this game with just two wins from their last 12 games and at 6/10 (BetVictor/william hill) look unconvincing favourites. Those who fancy the shock can get Macclesfield at 23/4 (BWin) and the draw at 57/17 (Pinnacle). For me this look a tough game to call and one not to get involved with.

One bet I do like the look of in the FA Cup is in taking Barnsley to get something from their game against fellow Championship side Hull. After a great end to 2012 Hull are enduring a terrible 2013 with no win in the league and needing extra-time in a replay before they saw off Leyton Orient in round three. For Barnsley 2013 has been a decent year with a third round victory over Burnley before a victory against Leeds and a draw at Ipswich in the league. Barnsley and the draw can be backed at 6/5 (BWin) and this looks the way to play it. Another bet I like is Derby to see off Blackburn at 13/10 (general). County have won six of their last nine at their own ground while Rovers have won just two of their last eleven away from home. Better still though for Rams fans is the record at home in the FA Cup against teams from their same division in which they have won five and lost none of their last six.

Teams to avoid betting on this weekend are Everton and Arsenal both of whom face tricky opposition from the Championship. Arsenal travel to Brighton who knocked out Newcastle in the last round and despite hitting five against the Hammers in the league in midweek I will not be trusting the Gunners at 8/11 (general). Everton also should be avoided at Bolton at 7/10 (general) to see off Bolton. The Trotters on a four game unbeaten run and should provide tricky opposition for a side who looked tired on Monday night.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Draw/Barnsley double chance v Hull, 6/5 (BWin)
SILVER: Derby to beat Blackburn, 13/10 (general)
BRONZE: Alex Lawless to score v Norwich, first 33/1 (bet365), anytime 11/1 (bet365)
