Sometimes I have to go grab my copy of the Oxford English Dictionary off the bookcase and make sure I understand the meaning of the word ’super’ as what I think the word means is not what Sky often think it means. This Sunday though you should get the whole Jim Bowen phrasebook out and rename it Super, Smashing, Great Sunday as Liverpool take on Man United and Arsenal face Man City in a mouthwatering pair of games.

The opening game sees Man Utd host Liverpool with the home side 10/11 (general) favourites for victory. The Red Devils enter this game on the back of a nine game unbeaten run in the league, winning eight of these. Liverpool are also in good form though winning seven of their last nine in all competitions. In terms of head-to-head meetings Liverpool have not won any of their last four at Old Trafford and just one of their last nine. If you think the Merseyside club can get all three points here then you can get them at 18/5 (BetVictor/Stan James) while the draw is priced at 36/13 (pinnacle). I think United should win this though Liverpool tend to raise their game for the big matches and as such I would recommend looking at markets other than the match result.

I like the look of the 10/3 boylesports are offering on Steven Gerrard in the anytime assist market. Gerrard has a divisional high tally of eight goal assists this season and looks worth a small interest at these prices in a game that the midfielder will surely be up for. I also like the 13/8 (Coral) are offering on YES in the market of the away team to score2+ goals. This would have paid in two of the last four United games and in five of the last 11. In Suarez Liverpool possess a player on form and with him and Sterling breaking at pace they could cause a shaky United backline problems. Liverpool meanwhile are scoring goals grabbing eleven in their last four in the league.

The second part of the double-header sees Arsenal take on Man City at the Emirates. The Gunners are 7/4 (Stan James) for victory and they have won three of their last four games at home in the Premier League. Visitors Man City have won just three of their last eight away games in all competitions and are 24/13 (pinnacle) to get all three points here. Two of the last five meetings between these sides in North London have ended drawn and you can get 5/2 (bet365/BetVictor) that this game also ends in a draw.

Those looking for a first goalscorer bet will see the market is headed by Sergio Aguero at 6/1 (Bwin) though it is highly unlikely that he will feature. Carlos Tevez is also 6/1 (BWin) and he is more likely to feature up front perhaps in a partnership with Edin Dzeko who is 7/1 (BWin to grab the opener. Those looking to back an Arsenal player to open the scoring can get Theo Walcott at 13/2 (general), Oliver Giroud at 7/1 (Stan James/ladbrokes/Coral) or Lukas Podolski at 15/2 (general). The best bet on this game to me is in taking the under 2.5 goals which is available at 19/16 with pinnacle. Though both teams have looked a little shaky at the back this season games between these two sides tend to be cagey. None of the last seven meetings between these two in North London has seen over 2.5 goals and just seven goals in total has been scored in the last six meetings at all venues between these two sides.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Under 2.5 goals between Arsenal and Man City, 19/16 (Pinnacle)
SILVER: Yes in the awayteam score 2+ market in Man U v Liverpool, 13/8 (Coral)
BRONZE: Steven Gerrard anytime assist v Man Utd, 10/3 (boylesports)
