It hardly seems possible while England is bracing itself for another cold weather snap that the Tennis players of the world are worrying about the heat that could affect them in Melbourne when the Australian Open gets underway Monday.

Novak Djokovic is the number one seed for the tournament and is a best priced 11/10 (youwin). Djokovic is a three-times winner here including victories in 2011 and 2012. The Serb is a deserved favourite at a venue he knows and loves. The draw has also been kind with Tomas Berydch, David Ferrer and Janko Tipsarevic likely to be his main obstacles on route to the final. Djokovic should stay fresh en-route to the final as long as he does not let his concentration slip and find himself playing longer games than necessary.

Andy Murray is the 17/5 (youwin) second favourite or 3/1 (general) for those who want the each-way option. The Scot has made at least the semi-finals in his last three appearances here, reaching the final in 2011 and 2010. Last year he took Djokovic all the way in a classic five setter semi and the Serb to me is again the only player to be able stop Murray here.

Some people might think Roger Federer can do the business and at 6/1 (sportingbet) could be decent each-way value. The Swiss ace has come undone at this event in the last four in the two previous years and it could be the same again here. The heat at Melbourne is energy sapping and it is noticeable that Federer underperformed in both those semi-finals. A potential quarter-final with Jo Wilfried Tsonga could also be the hardest facing the big three and this might put him at an energy disadvantage before he even faces Murray.

Having Murray and Djokvic in seperate halves of the draw is a godsend for punters as it means you can take BetVictor up on their generous 15/8 on these two players being the finalists. I have already stated that I can not see outside of the big three and think Murray should have too much for Federer in the other semi-final. This looks a good value bet.

The absence of Rafa Nadal means that the market is wide open in the second quarter for the chance to face Novak Djokovic in the last four. David Ferrer is the deserved favourite though it might to take him on as odds of 11/10 (Skybet) are not the greatest. This is not a favourite tournament for the Spaniard who has only once made the last four of this tournament. Janko Tipsarevic is next in the betting at 13/2 (BWin) he though has never been past the third round here and has a very tricky opener with home favourite Lleyton Hewitt. At these prices then you may as well take a punt on Kei Nishikori at 12/1 (betfred). The Japanese player is no world beater but did reach the last eight here last year.

Finally let us look at some of the specials on offer. youwin are best priced on the top 12 players in the market though none of them are available EW. BetVictor meanwhile have a great offer which they call ’Murray Mint’. Mint is also a regional term for something that is very good and this offer certainly is. You might be going from 11/10 to 10/11 on Djokovic however if you get money back if Andy Murray wins then this looks great value. You have essentially covered two of the top three in the betting in what looks a three horse race. I could not recommend this offer more.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Novak Djokovic to win Australian Open with moneyback if Andy Murray wins, 10/11 (BetVictor)
SILVER: Murray and Djokovic to be the finalists, 15/8 (BetVictor)
BRONZE: Kei Nishikori to win second quarter, 12/1 (betfred)
