With eight of the best golfers in the world in action in the Turkish Airlines World Golf Final this week a gap exists for some bigger price winners on the tour. Here is our preview of the evnts on both tours.

The market in the Portugal Masters is headed by two of the Ryder Cup winning European team as Francesco Molinari is 14/1 (general) favourite while Martin Kaymer is 20/1 (general). Molinari is a deserved favourite on a course he has spoken highly of and in event in which he has finished runner-up in twice before. That though is partly the problem with backing the Italian at this price he tends to not win many events. Though ultra-consistent he has just won once in the last sixteen starts and I would much rather side with others at a bigger price. Martin Kaymer arrives here on the back of a remarkable performance in the Ryder Cup, could this be the turning point needed to save his year? The German was in a terrible run of form that saw him spiral from first in the rankings down to 33rd. If Kaymer has some confidence back then he is the best player in the field. Take some of the 20/1 (general) that putt in the Ryder Cup has proven to be the turning point for Kaymer. Others also expected to go well are George Coetzee at 22/1 (bet365/BWin/188Bet). The South African will have his supporters after finishing tied for fifth in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Thorbjorn Olesen is also 22/1 (Bet Victor/Stan James) for victory here. The Danish wonderkid is a highly talented golfer who will surely add many more trophies to his sole European Tour success so far (The Sicilian Open in April). At a bigger price I like the look of Joost Luiten at 50/1 (ladbrokes). The Dutchman was top thirty here last year and the year before finished as runner-up so he has course form. In addition he played two really good rounds at the Links Championship last weekend to finish in the top 50 and if he can repeat this over four rounds he looks a great price.

Over in the United States the Fall Series continues in San Martin, California. As mysteriously prolific rapper 2PAC once said ‘California knows how to party.’ Just who will party this weekend though after claiming the Frys.Com Open? Bookmakers make Ernie Els (sportingbet/Stan James), Vijay Singh (general) and Nicolas Colsaerts (general) the 18/1 favourites. Though all three are fine golfers it is hard to get excited by them at that price. The two previous events have given us winners who are accurate off the tee and can handle the greens. This points the way to Josh Teater as a good each-way chance (45/1-Skybet/Stan James). Teater has finished in the top 25 in five of his last seven starts, he tied for seventh here last year and ranks highly in the key stats. Another I like at a bigger price is Tim Herron at 100/1 (general). The American tied for tenth in the JT Shriners. He has a top fifteen finish in this event in 2010 and ranks in the top 20 in the key categories of fairways hit, greens hit and strokes gained putting.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Martin Kaymer to win Portugal Masters 20/1 (general)
SILVER: Josh Teater EW in the Frys.Com open at 45/1 (Skybet/Stan James)
BRONZE: Jonas Blixt to finish as Top Swede in Frys.Com Open 5/4 (ladbrokes)
